To her defense: Former top athletes saying stupid stuff after their career is over (or sooner) seems to be the norm, not the exception.

Indeed Eddy mindless hateful homophobia from a religious person. Much like these religious people: So instead of highlighting individual has been tennis players homophobia, how about we address the attitudes of 2.7 million people in our country and how over a million of them want to make homosexuality a crime in the UK.

This coming from the guy who given the opportunity would make all abortion illegal against the will of 86% of the UK population, because of his religion. Shut your fucking mouth, because you don't get call other religions about their religious bigotry when your own religious bigotry is plain to see. I'm not the guy who wants to force women to give birth against their will when they're carrying their rapist/relative's child. Your's is Christian misogyny theirs is Islamic homophobia both of those views have no place in the UK in 2017.

If Tennis Australia are forced to rename the Margaret Court Arena because of her views on gays and lesbians, then I can only face palm in total despair at how intolerant our snowflake society has become.
Her views might be unfashionable at this day and age and people might not agree with them, but a) she is perfectly entitled to them since free speech still exists and we don't (yet) have thoughtcrime in our society, and b) the reason the arena was named after her in her honour had NOTHING to do with her political or religious beliefs; nor was she required to conform to political orthodoxy as a condition.
What the hell are people who think she should be punished for airing her views thinking about? Do they want us to live in a society like North Korea or what?

I notice you said the word "individual" Eddy. What if that homophobia goes a lot further than saying gay people are "turning" straight people. What if that homophobia exists to such an extent that a majority of Muslims would like to see the act itself made a crime. Are the attitudes of a million people who live in the same country as us not more relevant when it comes to religious homophobia Eddy?

Melbourne Park is owned by a private company. The public pressuring them via a boycott or otherwise is perfectly valid. This isn't "thought crime", since the issue is about her publicly stated comments. If the private company decides that they don't want to be associated with her anymore as it might damage their image, then how on earth does it remind you of North Korea?

I'm sure the number is far greater than a million if you take into account the non Muslims. What do you expect me to say here? Everyone's entitled to their views, no matter how poisonous and backward they are, so long as they're not impinging on the rights of others. That goes for Margaret Court or the Muslims you're referring to. Muslims or anyone else who think like that are backward thinking fuckwits.

Melbourne Park is owned by a private company. According to the BBC article you linked, it is the official governing body, Tennis Australia, who are responsible for the name and who have come under pressure to expunge it. I don't know what their relationship is with Melbourne Park, but it doesn't look like this is simply a case of a private company worrying that they might lose revenue if they continue to associate with her.
Even if this were the case, however, I would still be tempted to tell the public pressuring them via a boycott to go get stuffed and make way for those who have come to watch or play tennis. In the words of Stephen Fry: "It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' Well, so fucking what?" Instead of taking personal offense at somebody expressing a viewpoint that they disapprove of, they should be worrying about more important things in life.

Talks about punishing people for their views being like "North Korea" then without a hint of irony goes on to say what people should or shouldn't be offended by and what exactly is important to them in their lives. You don't have a clue do you? And Magaret Court has form for this type of thing, here's a comment from her about apartheid South Africa made in 1970: So an apartheid supporting racist and homophobe. Yeah I'll exercise me free speech rights to call her a bigoted outdated old relic of the past. Care to defend those comments TM?

Yeah I'll exercise me free speech rights to call her a bigoted outdated old relic of the past. Care to defend those comments TM? You have the right to call her whatever you like or be as offended by her as you please. What you don't have the right to do is to force Tennis Australia to respect your offended feelings any more than, say, you should be forced to respect the offended feelings of Muslims.
And I have no interest whatsoever in defending those comments. They are not mine, so why would I be obliged to defend them?

It's you who's trying to force people TM not me,you're the one who keeps talking about what is or isn't important to others what they should or shouldn't care about, the thought dictation in this thread is coming from you,you just lack the self awareness to see it. People are fully entitled to express their opinions about her however they see fit.If it's on this board or writing to tennis Australia to express their displeasure at such a women being employed by them or arranging a boycott of Tennis Australia events, that is their democratic right in a free democracy and I couldn't give a flying fuck what a fascistic turd like you thinks about it. Free speech but not freedom from the consequences of that speech.

Yes, almost as soon as people of oppressed groups start gaining rights we hear those from less oppressed ones claiming their “right” to abuse them. Prejudice and backlash - the divide and conquer strategy - are a favorite tool of those in power. Of course, a major one has been dividing by “race” www.timwise.org/2004/01/unnatural-selection-reflections-on-the-normalizing-of-racism/and another by religion and sexual orientation psychotherapy-and-psychoanalysis.com/NPI_articles_for_download/Greene_B_2009_Use_and_Abuse_of_Relig_Bel.pdfI think a key goal for anyone concerned with uniting opposition to power structures should be to get beyond these divisions – any thoughts?

To be fair, only the hot ones seem not to be lesbians. It's a surprise when someone with a face like a welder's bench is not a lesbian. Not a surprise when someone with a face like a welder's bench, who is not a lesbian, turns out to be a hateful bitch.

Since it appears that I am trying to dictate your thoughts to you, can't you at least try to sound a bit less angry and incoherent the whole time? Trying to have a rational conversation with you is a bit of an uphill battle, really. I'm being perfectly coherent TM it's just you can't deal with what I'm saying. When you first entered the thread: How is using your free speech rights to say you believe that a tennis arena shouldn't be named after a homophobe and a racist intolerant? How is using your democratic freedom to organise a boycott of Tennis Australia events forcing them to do anything? What business of it of yours if people choose not to spend their own money at an arena named after a women who's views they find repellent? They only snowflake on this thread is you,who has a problem with what people say and do or what arenas they will or won't attend. And guess what TM, Tennis Australia receives funding from the Australian government. So lets to talk about who exactly is being forced to do something they might not want to do. Why should the lesbian or black taxpayers of Australia be forced to contribute towards an arena named after women who is obviously prejudiced against them. If I was in Australia I wouldn't want my tax money to go towards funding an arena named after a bigot. And it would be my right to petition my government to withdraw such funding. Here's the reality you don't understand TM, we're not in the 1970s we're in 2017 most people don't like bigots and homophobes. And if society chooses to marginalise those people while not impinging on their right to express such views then there's isn't a problem. You're a fucking idiot mate, and the uphill struggle is getting you to see the absurdity of your stated position.
