Do you have Eastern European roots? Yes, and no. My mums side of the family as far back as we can trace come from 3 areas - Brittany, Cornwall and the northern parts of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. So definitely not there. However My Dads side of the family is from the eastern areas of Germany. Some of these areas are now Russia, Poland and Czechia. So maybe ? I think of ‘Eastern European’ to be the “Slavic” people plus the Hungarians and Romanians. In that regard, I’ve got no roots that I know of. The 500 years or so that have been traced - nothing but Germans

I was interested in checking my ancestry for a wee while but didn’t get very far back. Everyone was Irish.

The 500 years or so that have been traced - nothing but Germans Sounds like you put a lot of work into doing your family tree. I was interested in checking my ancestry for a wee while but didn’t get very far back. Everyone was Irish. I did the family tree thing about 10 years ago now. On my mums side - I have a relative who lives in Mansfield that did most of the work on the side of my maternal grandmother. Pretty straightforward as most of them were either navy or railway and fairly easy to trace. They all sort of go back towards the southwest and France. My maternal grandfathers family have barely moved for as long as we can trace. Mostly Nottingham and surrounds, with a couple of Derby’s, Chesterfield’s and Loughborough’s tossed in. In modern times, most, if not all of my relatives still live in the area except the two that emigrated to Australia (my grandparents, and my grandfathers brother), but they’ve spread a little further into Lancashire and Yorkshire. The primary reason I did that was because a bloke in the USA who shares my surname (which is not common at all) traced the family tree of EVERY person who has ever lived with my surname. EVERY single one. The poor bloke had terminal cancer and decided to do it before he died. Had a website and everything. Last I checked, there were 7477 people worldwide (but all bar 20-30 are in Germany or the USA) with my surname - and everyone of us is related to the same bloke who got some German peerage in 1585. Pity the website got closed down. Apparently in Germany it’s against the law to post names of people without their express consent.

For the record - it was delicious. Didn’t bother with a sauce though….

Got a hankering for salad today for some reason.
So this evening it's gonna be a vegan ploughman's (just swap out the cheese in a non-vegans ploughman's for falafels).

Already decided on supper this evening... Toasted crumpets topped with marmite and baked beans. I love a nice saucy bit of crumpet...

Giving these a try this evening, in paninis with fresh salad.... Not a big fan of trying to be like meat burgers. I'll eat them if needs be, but I prefer actual vegetable patties like this. So let's see if these are good or not?
