No idea what happens when a retired Pope dies... It hasn't happened for 600 years. It's normally a dead man's shoes job.
I hope Benny holds on until after Morning Mass tomorrow... I don't want it to be all about Cardinal Rapsinger dieing.
He wasn't what you would call a popular Pope, unlike his Holiness Pope Francis 🇻🇦

Not a great Pope in my opinion. A staunch conservative who tried to stamp out Liberation Theology (there were even accusations that he deliberately delayed Oscar Romero's sainthood to boot) and whose record on addressing child sex abuse can only be called, at very best, mixed.
To his credit, he did defend migrants and refugees at a time where they were increasingly demonised, and his stances on consumerism and nuclear energy were largely positive in my opinion. I certainly don't think he was much worse than John Paul II, perhaps even a bit better in some respects.
