I think the Catholic Church is there for stupid people who cannot think for themselves. At least they get morality, ethics and spirituality from this church. Can you imagine how uncivilized these numbskulls would be without the Catholic Church? I've got some issues with Catholicism, but none of them require insulting Catholics. You really hate stupid people, don't you? No I don't hate them. But I pity all the pathetic fools lining up to pay homage to this dead pope. I guess they think they'll get a jump on a good position in Heaven if they worship this dude. |

Whatever the pope says or endorses, is speaking for the entire Catholic cabal and is a mouthpiece for their God. A Catholic, within their own belief system, will say they like the Pope, no matter what. Any reasoning may not come with rational discourse. Catholicism at its finest. Romans 2:11 - There is no respect of persons with God. What this means is that God doesn't give a single rat's ass about the size of our hats. And Jesus blessed whores. |

I liked John Paul II!!! Thought he was a really great Pope. What did you like about him? Pretty much everything: He was a man truly under the Influence Of the Holy Spirit in every single way. Even his life prior to being elected as Pope, showed him to be an inspiration too. What he endured under Nazism in his country, followed by Communism. He lost his entire immediate family, right within the first 20 years of his life (which is very sad, of course) yet, he did not allow such tragedy to prevent him from persevering in serving God & His Church. |

He also seemed very intelligent - I read one of his papers on existentialism and although I didn't fully agree, I thought it was well argued. Looking at his time as Pope though, I see him as at best a pretty mixed bag. He considered homosexuality not just sinful, but gravely sinful. He banned transgender people from any church positions. He rolled back John Paul I's more open views on contraception, even in the face of the AIDS epidemic. He tried his best to stamp out Liberation Theology in the Americas to the extent he often refused to condemn the right-wing dictators they fought against. As for clerical sex abuse, he was definitely worse than Benedict XVI when it came to addressing that. It's funny though that he's generally well remembered while Benedict XVI isn't yet their positions on nearly everything were very similar. One would think that the people who liked one would generally like the other. Is it just that JPII was more charismatic? |
