The Pale Blue Eye is a mystery movie about a murder at West Point Military Academy in 1830. A Man is found hanging from a tree and mutilated and a detective (Christian Bale) is hired to solve the crime. During his investigation he meets one of the cadets, Edgar Allen Poe (Harry Melling), who he recruits to find out information from other cadets. The movie also stars Toby Jones, Gillian Anderson, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Timothy Spall and Robert Duvall. The movie is well-made and atmospheric and is compelling for much of the run-time, in part due to an excellent performance from Christian Bale. The problem with the movie is what everything leads to, which is well-handled from a directing standpoint but it just relies too largely on a coincidence. Everything technically fits together, but it feels very awkward and unearned. The movie is far better than Scott Cooper's previous movie "Antlers" though, which I think is a bad movie. Overall The Pale Blue Eye is worth watching, but how well you like it will depend on if you are able to buy the last act. 6.5/10

It's not bad, but it's a bit of a dry sit. petrolino don't worry it's better than 'The Raven'.

Thanks for the mini review. Sounds interesting.
(assuming you've seen it) Did you like it more than 'The Raven' (2012)?
