The closest thing to an animated horror movie I've seen is Mad Monster Party (1967), made by Rankin/Bass.

Monster House (2006) The Amazing Screw-On Head (2006 TV Movie) The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1949) Disney's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is truly a classic. Fantastic animation and the best actual adaptation of the story. But as it's a great and very faithful adaptation it's basically a short film, so it didn't come to mind. I've never heard of The Amazing Screw on Head. I'll definitely be checking that one out soon.

I guess it kinda depends on what counts. If the Burton ones count then they're all up there, as are the Laika studios ones. I haven't seen the new Henry Selick on, but I heard it was good.
Nobody has mentioned Spirited Away, which is a fantasy horror movie as far as I'm concerned, and a great film by one of the greatest filmmakers in the world, whether he works in animation or not.
There's a movie called The Adventures of Mark Twain that isn't particularly good, but there's a sequence where the main protagonists meet 'Lucifer' that's one of the creepiest things ever on film, and in a sort of metaphysical / existentially challenging way, not a stupid James Wan jump scare way. The whole movie may not be worth the time, but it's worth the time to look up that scene on youtube.

Each of those were different levels of disappointing to me, but I also enjoyed each of them.

For some reason I have just never thought of Spirited Away as horror, but you inspired me to list it. I think of it as just fantasy drama. I guess if I consider all the Tim Burton ones horror than Spirited Away should count too.
