Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film.
FIRST TIME FILM VIEWING
Felon (2008, Rick Roman Waugh) Netflix Stephen Dorf (Blade) plays a family man who is convicted of killing an intruder who must cope with life afterward in the violent penal system. Val Kilmer co stars in this modest budget prison film that has some issues in the writing department but never over stays it’s welcome. 6/10
Double Negative (1985, Sam Irvin) blu ray This film short follows a film director who must plot to steal the negative of his film in order to save it from being destroyed in an insurance scam cooked up by his sleazy producers. 6/10
Stay Tuned (1992, Peter Hyams) A whacky comedy about a tv obsessed man who gets sucked into his tv. It’s an ver stuffed film that doesn’t quite work despite some interesting ideas. 4.5/10
REPEAT FILM VIEWING
The Fury (1978, Brian DePalma) blu ray DePalma followed up the smash hit Carrie with another psychic Horror however this one’s story is not nearly as streamlined. It has far too many characters and storylines going to the point where all the characters maybe bar Kirk Douglas don’t really get any depth. The film succeeds despite these problems because of its superbly directed visual craftsmanship and set pieces. Not to mention a great score by John Williams and strong performances all around. 7/10
Narrow Margin (1990, Peter Hyams) I did not care for this film on first viewing but I really enjoyed it this time around. It is really well crafted with some great dialogue. It’s only let down by the ending and tagged on epilogue. 7/10
FIRST TIME DOCUMENTARY VIEWING
The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker (2023, Colette Camden) Netflix The documentary chronicles a happy-go-lucky nomad’s ascent to viral stardom and the steep downward spiral that resulted in his imprisonment. Average Documentary
FIRST TIME TV VIEWING
Treason (2022, Mini-series) Netflix Starts slow but gets better, good British Crime show. Good TV

First Viewings:
The Boston Strangler (1968) 5/10 7.5/10 Wildly inaccurate, but it is an interesting sort of experimental film with a memorable performance from Tony Curtis.Watcher (2022) 7/10 6.5/10 Like it until the laughably generic final act.Big Night (1996) 6/10) 8/10 A lot of fun. Ammonite (2020) 6/10 5/10 Boring, though well-acted.At Close Range (1986) 7/10 7/10 Good crime thriller with very good acting from Sean Penn and Christopher Walken.
Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) 8/10 8/10 I am just a fan of movies with this sort of plot. This is one of the best of those "stranger in a small town" thrillers.
