The Glass Bottom Boat…it’s not Napoleon Solo. I remember seeing this movie as a kid on broadcast TV. This was when stations used full-screen images and pan-and-scan editing. I didn't get the joke of that scene because Robert Vaughn was completely cut out and when the shot scanned over to where he'd been, he'd already gone. It was only years later that I was able to see Vaughn's gag cameo.

Carmen Ghia and Roger De Bris in the Original producers . It was years before I realized Roger was Mr Belvedere from the tv series.
Are these two characters now viewed in the same way as Mickey Rooney’s Japanese landlord in Breakfast at Tiffany’s? They are certainly caricatures.

They are certainly caricatures.Maybe they're a product of their time, but I find them less caricaturish than some of Martin Sheen's theater friends on Grace and Frankie.

The rugged veteran cowboy, Luke (played by Luke Askew), who is quietly protective of Gary Grimes' young, naive Ben Mockridge in the 1972 cult classic THE CULPEPPER CATTLE CO is clearly gay. It is is pretty subtly depicted in this grim and gritty coming of age oater, but the character is a positive one. Fact is, I only really picked up on it the second time I watched the film (which was directed by Dick Richards - who also made the equally fascinating seventies flicks Rafferty and the Gold Dust Twins and Farewell, My Lovely. If you love the genre, this revisionist western is one well worth tracking down.

Rusty (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is a drag queen trying to help homophobic Walt (Robert DeNiro) overcome the debilitating effects of a stroke. It’s Hoffman at his best in the overlooked gem FLAWLESS.

Shirley MacLaine THE CHILDRENS HOUR and (I'm guessing) Rod Steiger as Mr Joyboy in THE LOVED ONE (the campest element by far in a film featuring Liberace, Gielgud, Tab Hunter & Roddy McDowall - quite an achievement)

Not classic film, but...am I the only one who thinks Starsky and Hutch from the '70s cop series were a closeted gay couple?

Ancaria ( Joyzelle Joyner) performs the erotic "Dance of the Naked Moon" in The Sign of the Cross (1932) Dir. Cecil B. DeMille. The exotic dance drew attention from the censors who considered it to be lesbian over-toned, the scene was cut from the negative for a 1938 reissue, and was not seen again until a restoration by MCA/Universal in 1993...
