Franklin Pangborn as studio photographer "Otto Phocus" in the Our Gang comedy short Wild Poses--trying to get Spanky McFarland to smile for a photo, he shows him how by modeling prissy little grins. Spanky, the little smart-ass, turns to his father and asks, "Hey, Pop, do you see what I see?"

Not a classic era film, but Desert Hearts (1985) is my favorite, starring Patricia Charbonneau and Helen Shaver. Btw, Helen Shaver (on the right) is nominated for a DGA Award this year for directing the series, Station Eleven. She's had a substantial career in directing as well acting.

Yes I saw it at cinema in 85 - turned me onto Patsy Cline esp LEAVIN ON YOUR MIND...... I liked Shaver - DESERT HEARTS must be her keeper....didn't know she;d moved into directing

Dirk Bogarde in the Victim
At the end of Paris Blues there is a long pan over a night club with several gay and lesbian couples.
In Suspicion the woman writer who owns the book of poisons lives with a partner and they seem accepted as a couple very calmly.
In Blithe Spirit there is a hint of madame Arcoti fawning over Elvira, and Elvira ordering Rex Harrison to get her off .

The Public Enemy 1931. scene in Men's Clothing Store, the character measuring Tom Powers seems very interested in Tom, not just his clothes.
