If WB hadn’t brought on Whedon to do reshoots for JL, and Affleck got to make his Batman movie? That’s just an interesting little what-if that’s been in the back of my head for the past couple of years now. At the very least, we most likely wouldn’t have gotten Matt Reeves’ Batman, since Reeves was hired as a result of Affleck dropping out. As for Snyder, even if he got to finish his Justice League movie the first time around, it would’ve most likely still flopped, and he’d be done with DC after that anyway. Would the whole Snyderverse movement have still been a thing, though?
What about James Gunn? Would he still have been hired to take over at DC?

I can see them still making an offer to James Gunn. Perhaps they'd continue with the same cast but do a soft reboot.

I think it would’ve been the same scenario. I don’t think Snyder’s JL would’ve been all that much more successful. The franchise was already extremely divisive.

I'd say it would be better off but by how much who could say.
Justice League just wasn't a good movie to begin with but by taking out Darkseid and other things it meant there was nothing really for people to care about going forward.
Had they released ZL Justice League then it would have been received better but they couldn't have released a four hour movie like that in theatres to begin with so things would still have had to have been cut but I think overall it would have brought in a lot more interest in a sequel and what was to come.
Obviously a Ben Affleck Batman movie would have given the chance for the DCEU to expand and keep the ball possibly rolling.
Because as it has been, forgetting ZL Justice League entirely, the overarching main storyline of the DCEU was told through Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman and Justice League as a trilogy and then it just ended. All the DCEU movies since have really just been their own thing.
I think the potential for the DCEU died with that original Justice League.
