First Time Viewing An Officer and a Spy (2019; Roman Polanski) - An important story, well-acted and mostly well-made, but it could've been more thrilling and far more emotionally involving. 6.5/10 Death Laid an Egg (1968; Giulio Questi) - Bizarre proto-giallo about a couple of poultry farmers (Jean-Louis Trintigant and Gina Lollobrigida) who get caught up in some criminal machinations. This is too serious for a comedy, too laid-back for a drama and generally just too messy and nonsensical to convince as a thriller. I can sort of understand why it has become a cult movie though. 4/10 The Omega Man (1971; Boris Sagal) - This take on the Richard Matheson story might feel a tad dated, but I prefer it to the Will Smith version. 7/10 TV Twin Peaks (2017; David Lynch) - I found the first half of this torturously slow and almost came to the point of giving up on it entirely. The latter episodes were a lot stronger, but it still lacked the great atmosphere and overall sense of mystery of the original series. 6/10 Repeat Viewing Blade Runner (1982; Ridley Scott) - The visuals and set design are still incredible, but J. D. Sebastian is the only character I actually cared about and the plot leaves so many unanswered questions, that I find it frustrating to watch. 7.5/10 Blade Runner (1982; Ridley Scott) - Personally I love it. It's actually my favorite movie. I find it perfectly captures noirs like The Big Sleep and such in a sci-fi setting. I can pretty much watch it at any time. 10/10
Out of curiosity have you seen the Vincent Price take on I Am Legend (Called the Last Man on Earth)?
I haven't seen the Vincent Price version yet. Would you recommend it?

I don't find it frustrating at all, one of the most rewarding films i have seen and ive seen it many times. 9.5/10 I watched the final cut of Blade Runner. I wasn't a fan of the Phlip K. Dick book either, but I liked that it was more character-driven than the film.

I haven't seen the Vincent Price version yet. Would you recommend it? I would. It has some campy Vincent Price flair, but it's also the closest to achieving what the original "I Am Legend" story was about.

Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film. FIRST TIME FILM VIEWINGLocked Down (2021, Doug Liman) NetflixThis fun little pandemic heist movie has a pretty bad rep but I found it pretty charming. A good pedigree behind and in front of the cameras but maybe dropped the ball in the final act with attention to detail. 6.5-7/10The Rapture (1991, Michael Tolkin)This is a pretty wild movie about a woman’s con Erwin into a religious cult that think the end times are near. 6/10Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects (1989, J Lee Thompson)The final collaboration between this actor (Charles Bronson) and director. It is a nasty crime film that does not shy away from hot button attitudes. 5/10M3gan (2022, Gerard Johnstone)Poorly made, written, acted and quite a chore to get through. 3/10REPEAT FILM VIEWING Blue Jasmine (2013, Woody Allen) blu rayA great film with great characters that are all presented by actors on top of their game. 7.5-8/10Death Wish II (1982, Michael Winner) Blu rayThIs one has grown in my estimation over the years. It transports the action from New York to Los Angeles. It isn’t a carbon copy of the original but shares many similarities. It is however a much nastier film. 6.5/10The Train (1964, John Frankenheimer)I gave this one another go but found it the same. It’s a great premise, well acted with gorgeous black and white cinematography but I found it hard to stay totally engaged throughout. It feels a little bloated. 6-6.5/10The Village (2004, M Night Shyalaman) Disney+I had not seen this since the cinema. It is well made and pretty interesting throughout. I think the reveal at the end could have been handled better though. 6-6.5/10FIRST TIME DOCUMENTARY VIEWINGPunk Rock Vegan Movie (2023, Moby) YoutubeThis documentary appeals to my interests but not sure it’s for everyone. Free on YouTube. Good Documentary WEEKLY FILM AWARDSBEST FILM: Blue Jasmine BEST ACTOR: Chiwitel Ejiafor- Locked Down BEST ACTRESS: Cate Blanchett - Blue Jasmine BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Andrew Dice Clay - Blue Jasmine BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Sally Hawkins- Blue Jasmine BEST EDITING: Alisa Lepselter - Blue Jasmine BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Jean Tournier - The Train BEST SCORE: James Newton Howard - The Village BEST SCRIPT: Woody Allen - Blue Jasmine BEST DIRECTOR: Woody Allen - Blue Jasmine 10/10 - Perfection (or as close to it as possible) 09/10 - An Excellent film 08/10 - A VERY Good film 07/10 - A Good film 06/10 - A Solid film 05/10 - An Average film 04/10 - Below Average film 03/10 - A mostly bad film 02/10 - A mostly terrible film 01/10 - Awful through and through 00/10 - Not only awful but offensive Hi, Dark. Here I am. I'm curious about M3gan actually. Apparently an unrated, gorier cut will be released. I want to see The Train too. Yours: The Rapture 7.5/10 Yeah, wild indeed. I enjoyed it. Blue Jasmine 7.5/10 I couldn't get quite into it, like I do with other Woody movies, but I enjoyed it. It's quite dark. Cate Blanchett was great. I liked Andrew Dice Clay too. Death Wish II 6.5/10 O.K., yeah, it's very trashy. I didn't think it was bad though. The Village 4.5/10 I didn't like it. I really didn't like the twist. Mine: Rich and Famous 8/10 It's a George Cukor movie, with Jacqueline Bisset and Candice Bergen, about two writers, one who wrote a serious, critically acclaimed book, and the other who hits it big with trashy novels, and their relationship throughout the years. I hadn't heard good things about it, I liked it though, I thought it was fun, kind of soap-operish, maybe, but I like that. I loved Jacqueline Bisset, I thought she was great. I really liked the score too, It's by Georges Delerue. Giant 8/10 It's the George Stevens movie with Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean, about a rich Texas family, throughout the years. I like it, it's definitely too long, but still...James Dean was really fantastic. I really liked Carroll Baker too. I Delfini 6/10 It's an Italian movie from the 60s, with Claudia Cardinale and Tomas Milian, it's about the heirs of the rich families in an Italian town. A doctor gets invovled wiht them, and their lives, which are quite decadent, together with a local girl who dreams to enter their world. I thought it was so-so, the acting was good, but, I don't know, it felt a bit dull, IMO. Also, it's really not subtle.

I imagined that, being a thriller, it would have been somehow shorter. I thought it was longer than The Irishman, but, no, it turns out The Irishman is actually 3h and a half, more or less.

I thought it was so-so, the acting was good, but, I don't know, it felt a bit dull, IMO. Also, it's really not subtle. Giant - I really like this one. James Dean's best performance for me. 8/10

I’m not surprised, he’s had some pretty long films lately Oh, yeah, definitely. I imagined that, being a thriller, it would have been somehow shorter. I thought it was longer than The Irishman, but, no, it turns out The Irishman is actually 3h and a half, more or less. Last i heard he was still editing the new one so maybe itll come down a bit in length

It's going to Cannes, it seems.

Hi, Dark. In the second half, his character has become this 45/50 year old guy destroyed by his demons, and he's really absolutely, totally believable. It's insane to think he was 20 or so when he did it.
