Family Matters and Step By Step are my favorites from your list.
God bless you always!!!
Holly
P.S. Boy Meets World was good too, but at one point I did lose interest in the show somewhere in the middle.

How awful are all the sitcoms is a better question.

It's a good list. The only show on it that I never really watched is "Arrested Development".

Not orderMarried With Children (1987-1998) The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990-1996) These are the only two on the list I've seen with any regularity, they were both great shows. Mine would be, As Time Goes By (Judi Dench & Geoffrey Palmer) 3rd Rock from the Sun Married with Children The Andy Griffith Show (edit, I would probably add Sanford and Son) There are other shows I enjoyed in their time, but I wouldn't rewatch them. The 4 above I have rewatched and still enjoy.

I like Adams family, family ties, and growing pains. The rest I never really got into but I wouldn’t say awful. Those were very popular and successful shows that people loved

I had trouble getting into it because they were like moving out and getting married at like 18. It just seemed a little forced to me. Shawn was an alcoholc by what, like 19 or 20? It was like watching kids play dress up.

I watched the pilot of Family Matters the other day. It's on Hulu and I was curious. It's definitely a throwback to a different era, but that's the appeal of it. It's corny, but charming. It was popular back then for the same reason Hallmark movies are now: idealism. The happy family and moral lessons are just simply endearing on some level.
Christ, I remember watching these with my Dad and his parents. My Dad lived with his parents for a few years after the divorce. He'd pick me up on Fridays after school. I'd get up there (only about 45-50 minutes away, but felt like the fucking country to me) in time to eat dinner. We'd clean up, I might play in the yard a little, but it was soon time for TGIF. TGIF was an event in the beginning. It was family time. At least until the kids got too old to stay in on a Friday night. We'd gather around the TV with our snacks and the dog and just watch hokey old family entertainment. Saturdays were for more serious stuff like The Commish, other crime shows, or movies, but Fridays were all about TGIF.
And you know what? It didn't matter to us the Winslows and Urkel didn't "look like us" or that we didn't "see ourselves" in those characters. We didn't have to look like them to like, care about, or learn from them.

Corey and Topanga were young when they got married, but they were in college at least by the time that they decided to tie their marital knot. In this day and age, if marriage even happens anymore, kids are getting together now while still in high school. Maybe even as young as junior high now. I most definitely wouldn't be surprised if the shows of today were like kids playing dress up. God bless you always!!! Holly P.S. I don't encourage the act of getting wasted on any alcoholic beverage, but in Shawn's case, it was just one thing after another for him. From what I remember, he stayed with one of his teachers starting in season two I believe because his parents didn't care enough about him anymore. When his dad finally did come back around, he only eventually passed away and I believe that it was sometime after that he learned that who he believed to be his biological mom, that woman was not his mom. I remember him going to where his dad was buried and was wanting to know what else had been kept from him.

I just don't buy that their entire circle was married, engaged, or in a serious committed relationship that involved living with someone.

Arrested Development is top 5 shows all-time, across all genres.
Most of those, if not all from the genre, were merely very good early on, at best.
Married With Children was outstanding for its time, until it, like most others, stopped speaking to society's bs, & joined in as just another safe silly comedy. Boy Meets World is one of the worst - such a f'n whiffleball of a show & characters.
