Made this tonight! I love German food but the only good German place is four hours away up in the mountains! So I decided I’d try to pull it off myself. Turned out pretty good! Especially the cabbage. And of course I had to eat it with an ice cold beer, which you can see in the upper right corner. 🍺

A town called Leavenworth in central WA. It’s a little German themed town with quite a few great restaurants. Really cool architecture too.

I'm not a big fan of German food but I used to go to a German restaurant in Chicago that was family owned and was there about 100 years. It was called Berghof's. I always got the same thing: Jager Schnitzel (pork cutlets served with mushrooms, bacon and a sauce on top and homemade spatzel (a noodle) on the side with cabbage and root veggies. I also always had dessert: Black Forest cake. I left the Chicago area in JUNE 2001 and have never been back, I don't know if Berghof's is still there or if its still family owned. Sometimes there was a small German band in lederhosen. I did enjoy the Jager Schnitzel. p.s. Leavenworth, Wa. was featured as a great small town to visit on Yahoo last week. If I were younger, I would go - I'm just to old to travel and have too many wicked kitties to care for so I've become an "armchair" traveler. At least I had my share of "adventures" when I was young and my body could handle all the silly and stupid things I got myself into.

With the exception of choucroute, which is the French equivalent of Sauerkraut, I rarely have the opportunity to eat German dishes. I don’t even know of any German restaurants here. But a few months ago I came across a German restaurant during a trip, and it was great! They had a variety of schnitzel and other dishes. I don’t remember which one I ordered, but I wished I had stayed in that town longer so that I could try other options.
I wouldn't attempt to make pork schnitzel myself. Above my competency level!

Oh, lol... derp-derp on my part: I've been familiar with the Bavarian-style town of Leavenworth for decades, visited it when I was a kid, and one of my brothers actually lives there. So, I should've guessed what town you were talking about. Yeah, I need to visit there again one of these days. If I do I will let you know how the food is.

@forceghostackbar Wow. Cool place for your brother to live! I really like the place. It’s so charming and the food is delicious. I’m hoping to go back early this spring. Too cold now and the summers there are too hot for me.

But, as WKM asserted in a previous post, I'm just too old to travel much, so I'll get to it when I can. NGL, I do actually love trips up into the mountain areas of Washington state, but, said trips are getting to be a luxury these days.

I’m fairly close and I don’t even get up there very often. Been years, actually. Since before Covid 19.
