How often is there news?
When computers first became instruments of interactive mass communication there was a flurry of chatter.
Not everyone liked it though. The virtually anonymous discussion boards had serious problems with coarse language and lack of responsibility. There was a lot of work done by computer specialists to police the internet to make it more responsible. Email was safer from the unruly and so lots of people regularly shared news there. Still there was that possibility of contacting the "world" out there beyond friends and family. "News" web pages had sections for comments. Discussion boards became more civilized. The "personal web pages" idea where your internet service provider gave you your own "site" where you could post your photos and articles was too difficult to learn to use and didn't reach as large an audience. Facebook slipped to the front of several attempts to make the process easier, more widely available, yet safe from irresponsible traffic.
Many people are still searching for the "just right" relationship with the world at large. People have Facebook accounts with several hundred "friends," but weeks and months go by with nothing to say.
I have a theory that it is not a good thing if people go for months on end with nothing to say for the general public to consider.
I think that the news happens daily in the home. If you live with other people you should say something to them every day. If you do not then it is a sign something might be going wrong.
I think that there should be a somewhat "public" meeting and sharing of news every week. Of course religious services fulfill that need for a rather significant portion of the population. Religion and that art are in decline though. Some congregations have unruly or "bad" members, sometimes who gain prominence. That can discourage and stifle the process.
Then there are times when even people outside your denomination should be addressed. In a democracy this is especially important. There are special occasions, "holidays" (some not so religious), elections, and other occasions for the sharing of a wide open conversation.
Many people who frequent this discussion board are atheists. Such people might not have the weekly, sufficiently "public" meeting other people have. So I think you should try something. Say something here at least once a week. That is, on this board. You can do that in this topic as well if you like.
I say this because I think it's important to connect publicly and things have slowed here. We are wondering what happened to this and that guy.
