Beetlejuice sequel is supposedly finally happening

Why bother after 35 years?

Rumor has it former mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot will play Beetlejuice.

I think the real purpose in doing these remakes and sequels is just to push diversity. That seems to be the main point now. No one is paying attention to "diversity is strength" like they want (in other words, 24 hours a day) so they have to reinforce it. And what else can they do but attach it to some familiar cultural brand.

In every case, the Terminator, Creed, Star Wars etc--it is taking a story that was originally European-focused in some way, and introducing diversity as the new exciting element. That's it. No other reason.

They could have done a boxing film about a black boxer totally unrelated to Rocky--but then no one would pay attention.
In their thinking at least.

Santo did fine in Mexico for decades but that wasn't really diverse. No Africans or Chinese.
Or they consider it like taking down a statue--if they reedit a book or remake a movie but with diversity, that somehow achieves their protest goal.

There needs to be a statute of limitations on when a sequel film can be made.
