Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film. FIRST TIME FILM VIEWINGCreed 3 (2023, Michael B. Jordan) CinemaThe Creed offshoot of the Rocky franchise steps out of the shadow of Rocky. A solid directorial debut with hood acting all around. Some of the dramatic expositions were a little over the top and probably 15-20 minutes of those scenes could be trimmed but overall a great entry. 7.5/10Scream 6 (2023, Matt Oplin, Tyler Gillit) CinemaAfter the very disappointing part 5 the same team move the action to Manhattan and it’s a refreshing change of scenery. I didn’t care for the first 20 minutes or the last 20 minutes with both being egregious in the no logic category. However the middle 80 minutes is great and full of awesome set pieces. I don’t think the lead screws from this and the prior film is any good but despite its problems this might be the best sequel yet. (Not seen 2-4 in a long time though) 6/10REPEAT FILM VIEWINGDeath Wish 5 (1994, Alan A. Goldstein) blu rayUnderrated and pretty nasty entry in the series. My ranking for the 5 films remains the same after rewatches. 6/10FIRST TIME TV VIEWINGChris Rock: Selective Outrage (2023, Stan Up Special) NetflixSolid special with a passionate ending. Good to have you back Chris. Solid TVREPEAT TV VIEWINGThe Mandalorian (2019, Season One) Disney+Even better than I remembered. Great TV The Mandalorian (2020, Season Two) Disney+Even better than Season One. Great TVWEEKLY FILM AWARDSBEST FILM: creed 3 BEST ACTOR: Michael B. Jordan - Creed 3 BEST ACTRESS: Tessa Thompson - Creed 3 BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Jonathan Majors - Creed 3 BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Jenna Ortega - Scream 6 BEST EDITING: Jessica Bavleese - Creed 3 BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Kramer Moganthau - Creed 3 BEST SCORE: Joseph Shirley- Creed 3 BEST SCRIPT: Ryan & Keenan Coogler - Creed 3 BEST DIRECTOR: Michael B. Jordan - Creed 3 10/10 - Perfection (or as close to it as possible) 09/10 - An Excellent film 08/10 - A VERY Good film 07/10 - A Good film 06/10 - A Solid film 05/10 - An Average film 04/10 - Below Average film 03/10 - A mostly bad film 02/10 - A mostly terrible film 01/10 - Awful through and through 00/10 - Not only awful but offensive Hi, Dark. Here I am, a bit late. I'm definitely going to see Creed 3. Yours: Scream 6 6.5/10 I watched it too. It's not bad, but I actually prefer Scream 5. This is a bit messy, IMO. It's kind of over the top, but I don't mind that. There's a twist in the end, that I bet was mandated by the studio. I like Melissa Barrera in the lead. Mine (besides Scream 6): The Salute of the Jugger 5/10 It's a sci fi movie with Rutger Hauer and Joan Chen. It's about a team of players of a kind of gladiator game in a post-apocalyptic future, who roams from village to village to play, while the rich and the elite live undergorund. I didn't like it much. I like Rutger Hauer, the movie felt kind of dull though. Shock Waves 7/10 It's a horror movie from the 70s, with Peter Cushing. It's about a group of tourists who end up on an island where a ship with a squad of Nazi super-soldiers on board sank at the end of WW2. They awaken and rise from the ocean as zombies. It's O.K., it's very low budget. I liked the atmosphere, it's very creepy. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown 9/10 It's Pedro Almodovar movie, with Carmen Maura and Antonio Banderas. It's about an actress who got dumped by her lover, still tries to get in touch with him, and a series of crazy events happen and she ends up even getting involved with a terrorist attack. I hadn't sen it before, I thought it was a blast, really great and funny. And visually it's really gorgeous, the colors... Carmen Maura is great.

Hello again!
None of yours this week. I will see Scream 6 at some point, but probably when it hits Blu.
Mine (All re-watches which is an oddity for me):
Carrie (Brian De Palma, 1976)
A classic Stephen King adaptation from De Palma and honestly one of the few I've seen that's better than the book. Wonderful performances all around (also I watched the 4K disc which was nice, though not exactly a show off film). 8/10
Chinatown (Roman Polanski, 1974)
I'm not an overly big fan of Polanski, having issues with a lot of his films. That said Chinatown is one of the best neo-noir films and well worth a watch to any fan of the genre. 9/10
Oldboy (Park Chan-wook, 2003)
Wonderfully filmed and disturbing. Honestly it's an uncomfortable film to rewatch and this is only my second time seeing it... I likely won't watch it again for a long time, but I'd still recommend it. 8/10
The Maltese Falcon (John Huston, 1941)
In my top 10 films. 10/10

Death Wish 5 - 5/10 Mine: Suicide Squad (2016) - 10/10
This is a film that many tend to hate but I think is a absolute fun blast. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) - 5/10
OK sequel. Watchable but did not feel much for it. House Party (2023) - 2/10
Terrible remake of the 1990 film. Unfunny and the two leads are unlikeable. The Ritual Killer (2023) - 2/10
Dull thriller that makes little sense. Sacrilege (2020) - 4/10
Pretty dull but not the worst supernatural horror film. Superman: Unbound (2013) - 4/10A lesser DC animated film. Suicide Squad (2016) - I don't like it anywhere near as much as you did, but I had fun with it and certainly don't hate it. 6/10
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) - My daughter won't stop watching this. It plays at my house so much I need to tone it out so I can no longer fairly judge it. My initial rating was a 6/10 though.

First Time Viewing Blade in the Dark (1983; Lamberto Bava) - Solid giallo which lacks the style and elegance of the 70s classics but is still fairly entertaining. 6/10 Elvis (2022; Bazz Luhrman) - Never been a fan of Luhrman's filmmaking style and sadly his "craft" hasn't improved much over the years. This is an overlong, shallow music video where not even the musical parts are handled that well. Austin Butler is good, but Tom Hanks is every bit as awful as the detractors of his performance have claimed. Each of his scenes is a waste of time and I would argue, he deserved the Razzie. 4/10 New York, New York (1977; Martin Scorsese) - Less a musical and more of a music drama. This is a very talky movie with an unlikebale male lead. An online review called it "Travis Bickle gets married", which I find almost fitting since De Niro plays such an obnoxious jerk. Not being much of a Jazz fan I couldn't say I enjoyed the music much either, although the title song is obviously a timeless classic. 5/10
Ninja: Shadow of a Tear (2013; Isaac Florentine) - Okay, low-budget action movie. 5.5/10 Spellbinder (1988; Janet Greek) - Middling occult thriller with a predictable final twist. 6/10 Prospect (2018; Christopher Caldwell, Zeke Earl) - Mumblecore in space. It's a short film stretched to feature length with a dull plot. Not even the competent acting could save it. 3/10 Repeat Viewing Four Flies On Grey Velvet (1971; Dario Artgento) - After a great opening this giallo is almost derailed by silly humour. Not one of the director's classics, but it does have its moments. 6.5/10 Wanted (2008; Timur Bekmambetov) - Fun, escapist action movie. 7.5/10 Sorry to say none of yours this week. That said I finally got a copy of Four Flies... and will hopefully watch it soon.

Haven't seen any of yours this week. If you like Almodovar movies, I would most definitely reccomend Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. I've seen The Skin I Live In, Pain and Glory, Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, and All About My Mother and liked all 4 of them.

That said Chinatown is one of the best neo-noir films and well worth a watch to any fan of the genre. 9/10 Oldboy (Park Chan-wook, 2003) Wonderfully filmed and disturbing. Honestly it's an uncomfortable film to rewatch and this is only my second time seeing it... I likely won't watch it again for a long time, but I'd still recommend it. 8/10 The Maltese Falcon (John Huston, 1941) In my top 10 films. 10/10 Carrie - One of De Palma's best. Spacek and Laurie are great. 8/10 Chinatown - A favorite of mine. Strong performances, great script, and a terrific score. 9/10 Oldboy - Big fan of this one as well. 8.5/10 The Maltese Falcon - Great noir. My second favorite John Huston movie. 9/10

If you like Almodovar movies, I would most definitely reccomend Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. I've seen The Skin I Live In, Pain and Glory, Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, and All About My Mother and liked all 4 of them. You should love Women on the Verge then. I haven't seen All About My Mother, but I really dug the other three (It's been a while since I saw Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! though, but I remember liking it a lot).

Hello again! None of yours this week. I will see Scream 6 at some point, but probably when it hits Blu. In my top 50 of all time 9/10 old boy - I’ve seen it once, bavk when it came out. I liked it then and it has some memorable well constructed scenes. I’ve not had the urge to watch it again though. Not too keen on seeing the octopus scene again. 7/10 maltese falcon - I like it, it’s a classic for a reason, but it doesn’t even make my top 50 noir 7/10

Sissy Spacek gives a great performance but the movie itself is so hysterical and lacking any subtlety, that it really annyoed the hell out of me. - 3/10
Chinatown (Roman Polanski, 1974) I've always wanted to like Chinatown. It has great performances from Nicholson and Dunaway and a superb score by Jerry Goldsmith. However I find the plot too simple and predictable. John Huston' s character is so cartoonishly evil, that there's not much of a mystery to the plot. I also don't like how the finale was staged, I feel it could've been handled in a more effective way. - 6/10
Oldboy (Park Chan-wook, 2003) I've only seen it once and liked it for the most part, but the last act got a bit too demented for my taste. - 7/10
The Maltese Falcon (John Huston, 1941)
Timeles classic. - 8.5/10

Hey billy wow I’m surprised to see anyone prefer 5 and even more surprised that anyone would think 6 is messier than 5 🤣 just one of yours this week shock waves - saw on vhs forever ago, didn’t like it 4/10 Well, Scream V is kind of messy too, but it works better as a movie for me. .: Although, I guess it's complicated now not to make a Scream movie that it's kind of messy, at least in the plot. I’m yup they all get messy, 3 gets messy, 4 is crazily messy

The directors are doing the new Escape from New York movie.
