Is (The) Evil Dead supposed to mean:

1- The Evil which is DEAD?

2- The Dead Ones who are also EVIL?

It's just one demon, the Kandarian Demon, possessing living people. So I guess it's supposed to be #1, not #2.

Also, the Deadites are not "dead", not all of them. They are living people possessed by the Kandarian Demon.

I'm sure it was always meant to be the first option.

The title suggests it's a Romero-style zombie film, but it is more about demonic possession, and as you said, not everyone is 'dead' when they are turned.
