The Sorcerers (1967; Michael Reeves) I'm afraid I found this to be a rather sordid and unpleasant affair. 4/10 That was my reaction. It is similar to NOTHING BUT THE NIGHT and even BEING JOHN MALKOVICH isn't it? I found the wife really annoying.
I am still thinking about MANIAC COP. I didn't recognize Robert Z'Dar but I saw him in a 1970s blaxploitation film and did he ever look like Vincent Price in that movie. Forgot the name of it.
I think there is something to 1990s-era lower budget horror or action movies. I haven't watched many in a long time so I notice things..the cinematography is more bright and less moody. It has a direct-to-video kind of feeling.
Secondly, characterization becomes less important. Personal insight into a character---it is more plot driven by the 1990s. Most of the dialogue is plot-based. Tom Atkins does not show much characterization. Likewise for Bruce Campbell. The wife thing is so quickly discarded.
This film sets up Richard Roundtree for some kind of connection to the title character but you don't really feel it--he doesn't show it--and the killing scene that comes later is presented through a door which deflates any kind of importance for it anyway.
I don't watch many horror films from the 90s and there are a lot that slipped under the radar but when I do check them out, I notice this significant change in style.

The Alligator People (1959) Scientist George Macready turning people into Alligators, Lon Chaney as an obnoxious drunken Bayou swamp dweller, and Beverly Garland running through the swamp in a soaking rain. What more could you want out of a B movie? 6/10.

Zombie High(1987) Virginia Madsen enrolls in an exclusive prep school. Starts off like a teen rom-com, but after a while she starts noticing her fellow students seeming Zombie-like. Not George Romero Zombie, more like Body Snatchers Zombie. Naturally instead of getting the hell out of there, she decides to solve the mystery. 5/10. How it played out reminded me very much of the late 90s teen horror ‘Disturbing Behaviour’.

Tenebrae (1982; Dario Argento)I wasn't too impressed with Tenebrae the first time I saw it, but this might have to do with my first viewing coming right after Deep Red which with its operatic style, great atmosphere and supernaturally tinged mystery was very different. Compared to the earlier film Tenebrae felt a bit flat and cold, not helped by the fact, that the German release cut out the most violent scenes, making especially the ending severely lacking in effect. I also disliked the final twist, finding it too derivative. However watching Tenebrae again, now in its uncut version, I find, that the movie has improved significantly. Knowing the plot has enabled me to focus more on the visual presentation amd immerse myself in the world of the film. There's a lot of illuminating information available whether on the blu-ray extras or online, which also contribute to the film's better understanding. Among the most fascinating insights I find to be the following: It would've been interesting to watch an entire trilogy of films set in this futuristic world, but the somewhat lukewarm reception of Tenebrae might explain why Argento quickly abandoned the pared-down modern style he had adopted for the movie returning to a more phantastical setting for his next films Phenomena and Opera. 8/10 I’m in the same camp. Didn’t care for it, the first time I saw it. But upon every re-watch, it’s grown on me. Big time. Every watch I pick-up on new details, like the last time was how Argento used warm, soft colours (on costumes, decors etc) to make the red blood stand out. Made the attacks seem more vicious, and eye popping in the aftermath. It’s easily in my top 3 Argento.

Wicked, Wicked 1973 -- Shot in the experimental process of Duo-Vision--we get two panels of the film showing different action. It gets irritating at times--for what is a standard psycho killer in a hotel kind of story.
Quark from Deep Space 9 has a brief part as a bellhop. His voice was familiar.

Let's Scare Jessica to Death(1971) Jessica is just released from an asylum and moves into an old farmhouse with her husband. She begins to see and hear threatening images and sounds. Is she having a relapse or are there sinister forces afoot? Nice cinematography. Has a dreamlike feel to it. No nudity or graphic violence. 6/10.

6/10Pretty good horror comedy with a nice satire on race and stereotypes. Pretty entertaining but nothing I would see twice though.

4/10Watchable but not that good survival horror thriller that has 5 girls getting together for the weekend and getting lost in the woods. Other dangers become apparent. I get a kick out of the bear attack scene which clearly uses footage of some nature program.

4/10The Asylum made a Exorcist ripoff of The Exorcist: Believer. Its not good but actually for a Asylum ripoff, its not that bad. Perhaps because that it has Doug Bradly (Pinhead from Hellraiser) as the main priest and he gives a good performance. Its a simple girl gets possessed film. Theres a subplot of some teens breaking into where the Exorcist is taking place but its kinda pointless. Overall its watchable and thats not the case for many of these Asylum flicks.

1/10This movie sucks! I mean this is really terrible. Its a utterly complete mess that makes no sense at all. Apparently its about a girl having a birthday party but she kills some people. Some before the part and some during. Its so poorly done in every aspect. Poorly filmed, poorly directed, poorly acted ect. It really must be seen to be believed. The film has a 4.7 on IMDB. Lots of 7s. Im betting its the filmmakers friends or something like that. Even the positive reviews seem fake.

DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE - 1968 - One thing I wondered about. The innkeeper tells the monsignor that the priest came back down and said he wanted to be alone--but we then see the priest at the castle with Dracula. I assume it must have been an editing issue. If they had the Dracula scene before the monsignor returned to the inn then one might wonder why he didn't see Dracula and vice versa. Unless the innkeeper was secretly working for Dracula and lied. Or didn't know where the priest was and didn't want to appear dumb.

Dracula(1974) Not bad made for TV version, though Jack Palance as The Count does over act a bit. No Renfield in this one. 6/10.

We Are the Flesh (2016) aka Tenemos La Carne. Mexican Horror/Drama/Fantasy. Spanish with English subs. Wandering brother and sister teens move in with an older, crazy man seemingly living a hermit like existence. Dreary in the beginning, confusing at the end, and plenty of graphic nudity, sex, and violence in the rest. 5½/10.

Monster in the Closet (1986) Thought this was a FTV, but as I watched, I started recognizing scenes and lines, many stollen from horror classics. Charmingly silly Troma movie. 4/10.

NIGHTMARE CASTLE 1965 - rewatch--Barbara Steele is tortured to death by Paul Muller (who as someone joked is in every Euro film ever made) and then reappears as her stepsister--who inherits money that he wants and intends to get by driving her mad. But what about the ghost in the potted plant? Will it get its revenge?

1/10Well this was a total mess. It starts out as a supernatural Ouija board based film but turns into a home invasion film type. I dont know what this movie was going for. Plus its just flat out boring.

8/10Really lives up to the reputation of being one of the scariest films ever made. Incredibly well acted and directed. A great film but Its a little slow to get going.

COUNT DRACULA 1970 - Watched it before-hasn't aged any better. Funny how the film has locations far superior to Hammer versions and yet the story is awful and Lee, Herbert Lom, and Klaus Kinski are wasted and rather stilted.
