The Night Stalker(1972) Made for TV movie that inspired an entertaining TV series. Darren McGavin heads a solid cast as a reporter in Las Vegas trying to track down a Vampire. At the time it received the highest ratings of any made for TV movie. 6½/10.

Curse of the Fly (1965) 2nd sequel to The Fly, this time the Delambre grandsons get involved with the ill fated experiments. No fly this time, but still a good story. 7/10.

NIGHT OF THE BIG HEAT 1967 - I usually watch this during a heat wave but broke with tradition. Aliens invade a small island via electronic signals and Christopher Lee is trying to stop them. Peter Cushing is also on hand. It is a quirky movie due to the emphasis on the romantic dilemma of Patrick Allen. There are some particularly good emphatically-spoken lines like "I wanted her body! She was a slut and I wanted her."
"Well he can't come you selfish bitch, he's dead!"

Most Beautiful Island (2017) Young immigrant woman in New York who are hard up for cash are lured into playing a dangerous game. A lot of buildup, but a suspenseful finish. 6½/10.

THE VENGEANCE OF LADY MORGAN - 1965 - Susan loves Pierre. But her Uncle Neville has arranged for her to marry Harold. She tells Harold she loves Pierre and Harold wishes her the best. But since he is played by Paul Muller, we know he doesn't mean it. So he gets Gordon Mitchell to shove Pierre off a boat. But Pierre survives--and is bed-ridden with amnesia. Meanwhile Susan is hypnotized by Harold and his mistress (Erica Blanc) into thinking she is crazy.
Eventually ghosts get involved and it has an interesting feature--they need human blood to drink so they can hang around in a semi-material form. This idea is found in the Aeneid I believe--the spirits drink blood in order to materialize.
Anyway, I wonder why it is called Lady Morgan's revenge when no one in it is named Morgan.

Requiem for a Vampire (1972)Directed by Jean Rollin, who usually can be counted on for some sex and nudity in his vampire movies, and this is no exception. In French with English subs, but there isn't a heck of a lot of dialogue, especially in the beginning. Two girls on the run take refuge in a remote castle in the French countryside, not knowing that it's the home of a group of vampires. Not bad if you don't mind a rape scene, which actually becomes more boring than disturbing. 6/10.

FRIGHT NIGHT 2 - Haven't seen this since 1990. It's not remotely close to the original and suffers from a meandering script. The ingredients are there but just handled without the combo of humor and horror and pacing. Brad Fiedel helps, and the cast is good--Traci Lin is alright--she reminds me of Gretchen Corbett in a way. Julie Carmen was a very good choice for the sister of Jerry Dandridge but she doesn't have much to do and her character lacks humor. One thing that surprised me was the werewolf is played by Jonathan Gries--who was the wolfman in the Monster Squad. Too bad it wasn't more focused but I have seen worse sequels. Carmen’s character lacking humour probably had to do with her ragtag group. Though I agree something a little more sly, or dry (to go along with Carmen’s seductively ice cold persona) in the writing would have been a nice balance.

Return of the Fly(1959). The son of the Fly is grown up and carrying on with his fathers work, with similar results. Not as good as the original, but this time the Fly does kill some people. 7/10. It’s rather amusing watching the poor guy running around with that giant fly head, and at the same time trying to keep it still.

I liked the scene where Peter Vincent is taking props from his movies to use as weapons.
They didn't know what to do with him and Charlie. The latter especially seemed almost a different person.
They could have done more with him realizing he was becoming a vampire instead of leaving it unspoken. Instead of him believing vampires don't exist, the girlfriend could have been fascinated by his delusions--and studying him for a term paper. The shrink was a useless character--the actor was too anonymous but it just wasn't a good fit in that story.
The original was so well constructed. It built up suspense wonderfully. I.e. will Billy Cole is spooking Charlie with the realization it is getting dark.
It is hard to match that in a sequel. And no Evil Ed.
"Mmmmmmm! His dinner is in the oven!"

THE HOUSE OF LONG SHADOWS - 1983 - Had seen it before and remember not being particularly fond of it despite the star power of Vincent Price! Christopher Lee! Peter Cushing! John Carradine! Desi Arnez!
Wait a minute?
Yes, I am afraid Ricky Jr is a fifth wheel -- but even if he wasn't, the story was only kind of meh so it would have been underwhelming anyway.
He gets as much help as he can--Richard Todd contributes to that end and he has a likable and humble co-star in Julie Peasgood (when you have a name like that you better be humble).

Bloodlust: Subspecies III (1994). Didn't love the 1st 2 Subspecies, but thought they were alright. This one kind of annoyed me. the main villain Radu seemed kind of pathetic, though still dangerous, falling in love and being manipulated. He should have listened to his Mummy! 3½/10.

The Creeping Flesh (1973) Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, a Jekyll/Hyde formula, an escaped lunatic, and a monster resurrected from the dawn of mankind. Forget logic and enjoy the ride. 6½/10.

The Shiver of the Vampires (1971) The plot doesn't make a lot of sense, and the 2 male Vampires spend way too much time talking gibberish, but director Jean Rollin put in enough nudity to hold my interest, Sandra Julien, who plays a newlywed, is ungodly good looking, and there is a female vampire who really enjoys making an entrance. In French with English subs. 6/10.

BAY OF BLOOD 1971 - Finally got around to seeing this proto-slasher. Certainly appears to be a major source of inspiration. The watching eye of a killer reminded me of Black Christmas and a few of the murders likely influenced Friday the 13th. But the story is more thematically deep than your average slasher film given the lack of innocent characters. It seems like the bay itself is the source of the killing instinct, using people to prevent it from being changed. Interesting idea.

Camilla(2019) In a historical period, possibly Victorian England, a girl of unknown origin and recovering from an accident stays with a family and becomes fast friends with their teenage daughter. The friendship has vampiric and lesbian overtones. The plot had similarities to The Vampire Lovers(1970), though much toned down. A bit slow moving, but well shot and acted. 7/10.
