NIGHT OF THE WITCHES - 1971 - Cheap quasi-comedy something or other about a lecherous preacher who goes to a castle populated by witches killing people based on astrology. Can't call it an exploitation film since there is no nudity or gore and not really a horror film (more like a horrible film). More of an actor's vanity project by the looks of it since the star is also the writer and director. Not incompetently made (they have on set sound!) or acted just rather pointless.

Naked Cannibal Campers (2020) Sexy witches dine on campers. Silly and Amateurish, but, on the bright side, short(61m) with lots of gore and nudity. 4/10.

Smithers: May I ask about your weekend?
Burns: A bit overly familiar, but I'll allow it. I took in a movie. A piece of filth featuring a blonde harlot who spent half the film naked as a jaybird. Give the great unwashed a pair of oversized breasts and a happy ending and they'll oink for more. Call me old-fashioned, but movies were sexier when the actors kept their clothes on. Vilma Banky did more with one raised eyebrow than an entire--

Squirm (1976)Various species of worms attack a small Georgia town after they are forced above ground by power lines knocked down during a severe thunder storm. A fitting entry in the "nature versus man" subgenre of horror during the 70s. Often slow at times, but the payoff is worth it. With his directorial debut, Jeff Lieberman makes the most out of a very limited budget. The combination of using real worms with rubber ones comes off as mostly convincing, although a large amount of the fake worms sometimes looks like a huge pile of red spaghetti. But for the most part it works, and there are some truly icky shock scenes. I especially like the occasional close-up of the worms displaying fang-like teeth and doing that unsettling screaming. 7/10 I remember not caring for this one, but I definitely wouldn’t mind giving it another shot. Pretty much like every other Jeff Lieberman film I’ve seen.

Lost of rewatches this month THE GHOST GALLEON - 1974 - Blind Dead on a ship. The FX and ship set are very atmospheric. In English the characters and dialogue are not much to speak about--but you don't usually watch these for that. Probably my favourite of the four films. Feels like the odd one out amongst the four, but I think it stands out more so because of the backdrop. The other films in the series are better made, but this one is indeed atmospheric and I find creepier because of the tight quarters.

INVADERS FROM MARS - 1953 - This movie has aged really well, especially when compared to some others like The Thing From Another World and The War of the Worlds. Nothing in the way of goofy irrelevant or dated dialogue and considering there is a woman doctor--with some authority--that was fascinating, especially compared to horrible "science student" in the George Pal film. Also, the military were refreshingly not skeptical. I remembered Barbara Billingsly was in this for a half a minute but didn't remember Bert Freed was the police chief. Hillary Brooks I knew from the Abbott and Costello tv show. Leif Erickson looked a lot like an older Charlton Heston in the 1970s.
This film must have been hugely influential on other sci-fi. It has a unique visual style--a nightmarish Norman Rockwell painting. The girl who gets taken was creepy. Think of the ideas that come out of it--the brain implant that explodes, the weird-bubble-like caverns that are a precursor to ALIEN, and the weird choral music and zombie mutants made me think of the Borg.
I took a look at the UK version. The inserts---not good.
The US version is better.

VAMPYRES 1974 -- Was expecting this to be a Spanish film heavy on lesbo vampire exploitation and not much else. Surprised it was UK-based and how artfully made it was--the acting was good, and the cinematography very atmospheric and dream-like at times. This had a strong gothic feeling to it. Early on I thought it was going to be a remake of Daughters of Darkness 1971--the elderly hotel clerk recognizing the man guest made me wonder if the latter was a vampire along the lines of that film but it went in a different direction (I am assuming that one inspired this to some extent though). The lead vampiress managed to be very sinister with and without clothes on. And one of the very few vampire movies I have seen that use real bats in a castle.

Zombie Lake (1981) Nazi Zombies reside in a lake and occasionally come out to kill people. Lots of naked Women can't quite make up for poor acting and absurd plot developments. In French with English subs. 3½/10.

When Evil Lurks (2023) Argentine possession film. Two brothers living in a farm house hear shots 1 night. while investigating the next day they find a man cut in half and later a grotesquely swollen possessed son of a neighbor. QUATERMASS AND THE PIT 1967- The one scene that doesn't work for me is when they are drilling and their faces have the dumbest expressions. They are supposed to look disturbed but it looks funny to me especially Andrew Keir's expression. It just looks funny. Otherwise, this is quite a good sci-fi horror mystery film.

OFFBEAT - 1961 - Undercover cop finds himself beginning to regard the crooks as his friend. Pretty involving story. Strange that Anthony Dawson's character was named Dawson!
Kill Baby Kill - 1966-- Seen it before. Story isn't much to write home about but the visual style is very colorful.
