Atypical and groundbreaking giallo that focuses the spotlight on the endlessly sexy Edwige Fenech. A bit slower and less violent than much of what the subgenre would produce later in the decade, but no less satisfying. 8/10 I might need to give this one a re-watch. It seems to be a popular pick for the sub-genre. Although I wasn’t a fan of it. Well-made, nice locations and strong cast. But the plot just didn’t do much for me. Then again, I’m sort of hot and cold when it comes to giallo films.

October Horror Challenge - 2020 - Day 27:71. Dark Tower (1989) by Freddie Francis and Ken Wiederhorn Supernatural horror-thriller, which I somehow have always been interested in checking out, as I do have a soft spot for these late 80s and early 90s horror films which takes place or surroundings in large or tall buildings, but also because the lovely Jenny Agutter and Larry Cohen favorite leading man Michael Moriarty stars in the two main parts. Sadly, this one turned out to become a sleeper, and not the positive kind, but one that I had to almost turn off, and watch the rest of it the day after, as it just felt like most of the time, you had Agutter running around in corridors, screaming her lungs out, while Moriarty seems not exactly too "inspired", and then you have all these overlong and dull talking, and more talking scenes, which just never ends. 3/10 The poster artwork was pretty cool. That’s all I remembered about it, until l looked up my old IMDb review. Kinda easy to see why it’s a forgotten staple. An attention grabbing opening eventually becomes plodding, talky and not enough thrills. Looks like the production had some behind the scenes issues too. Probably not a good sign director Ken Wiederhorn took over, as at that time of his career he was tired of doing horror films according to his Return of the Living Dead II commentary thoughts.

It just hits all the right notes for me personally.

Better than I remember it being. A not too shabby Child's Play knockoff with Rip Torn chewing up the scenery. 6/10

I am admittedly not a fan of the cannibal subgenre, less so of animal cruelty. Foolishly gave this one a chance based on the director (Sergio Martino) and the presence of one Ursula Andress. The film is effective and has a real air of danger, I'll give it that. But I guess danger is easily achievable when you're willing to throw a live monkey to a fucking python. 5/10

Ready or Not (2019) New bride must play killer game of Hide and Seek with in-laws. The 2nd Samara Weaving movie I've seen, the other being Mayhem, where she plays the same type of character and I've liked her in both. In fact, I thought most of the actors did a good job in this, the killers were not all despicable, and some were even likeable. It doesn't take itself too serious, and there are some amusing moments mixed in with the suspense of the game. 6.5/10.
