Has anyone else watched this show? It's a big success, and seems to be the first 'prestige' and well regarded movie or TV series to be based on a video game. There have been other successes in the past, but not that have really been taken seriously.
It's a quality show, with high production values, and other than hitting mostly the same beats as pretty much every other zombie/apocalypse narrative, it's a fairly compelling story with actual characters and a narrative interest. It's pretty good stuff.
I knew essentially nothing about the game (or video games in general), but people tell me that it sticks relatively closely to the story of the game, which is interesting because there is not a whole lot of action in this show. It's got its tense and suspenseful moments, and it's got its action sequences, but it's not primarily an action based series. It's much more mood and story driven. It skews closer to The Road than Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead.
Anyway, it's a worthwhile watch. It has a somewhat different approach to zombies, but they more or less function the same way (except that they're not really present in as much of the show as I would have guessed) which makes it essentially a zombie show, so I think it's worth mentioning on the horror board.
