I think both films cater for the full Fulci horror experience.

I'm mostly just reminded how many more Lucio Fulci movies I need to see.

Out of the 15 films I have seen directed by Lucio Fulci, I guess this would be how I rate/rank them:
7/10 Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979)
6/10 The Beyond (1981) The Psychic (1977) Murder-Rock (1984) City of the Living Dead (1980) The New York Ripper (1982) The Black Cat (1981)
5/10 The House by the Cemetery (1981) A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin (1971)
4/10 Ænigma (1987) Zombie 3 (1988) Manhattan Baby (1982) The House of Clocks (1989)
3/10 Touch of Death (1988) A Cat in the Brain (1990)
If I had to pick one of the 15 seen and rated Fulci films, I guess it is hard to beat out Zombie Flesh Eaters, which has lots of atmosphere, very nasty looking zombies and some truly gruesome death scenes, but one which also comes with a solid pace and not too many boring characters either.
For the visually and dreamlike, The Beyond is worth a go, even though I somehow do feel it is a bit slow moving at times, and really wanted to enjoy it way more, just cannot seem to get over the mentioned "problem" I have with some of his films.
The most fun or wild of his releases that I have watched, has to be his Flashdance attempt on doing a sleazy slasher at some dance school, and while I have not seen it for far too long, it came with a damn catchy score by Keith Emerson, lots of beautiful women and some impressive amount of gore and cheese.

Don't Torture a Duckling - 7.5/10 Zombi 2/Zombie/Zombie Flesh Easters - 7.5/10 The Beyond - 7/10
That's all I've seen. I'd also recommend DTAD and Zombie for newcomers.

I do see that as a common complaint about his films being slow and dull. Even sometimes the shocks being too tacky… post Zombi. I would be interested to see ‘Murder-Rock’ again. Saw it once and only on a banged up vhs tape. Remember it being one of Fulci’s visually striking films.Keith Emerson had some impressive scores. ‘A Cat in the Brain’ is one film that has piqued my curiosity. Sounds like A New Nightmare in concept. But it seems to be rated as one of his lesser films. Even just going by how if faired on this thread. Was it the execution that turned you off, or pacing issues?

Sounds like A New Nightmare in concept. But it seems to be rated as one of his lesser films. Even just going by how if faired on this thread. Was it the execution that turned you off, or pacing issues? Yeah, slow pace is usually one thing I can get by if there is made great room for the music or visuals to fill up the "blanks" where the story or characters might just do not deliver or entertain as much as one would like to. Of course the shock effect of including lots of gruesome and sleazy scenes sure can help provide it and boost things up a bit, but with Fulci, I guess I do have a limit to how much of that I can stomach before starting to watch how much is left on the clock. Keith seemed to have a good thing going with italian directors, and would very much like to get my hands on both the Inferno score and Murder-Rock as well. A Cat in the Brain I actually might have seen twice, and somehow I remember very little of it. Must have been 7-8 years since last visit and which surely were my final due to throwing the DVD away in the garbage in anger. But that was when I "had to" watch through 3-5 films a day, because I was about to move, and had far too many DVDs lying around, and tried my best to downsize the collection and get rid of all those not worthy to keep hold of, and yeah, I feel like I have not missed out on something great by doing that.
