There is one part where Homer looks at a map of the United States, and he says this: Oh, there's a New mexico!
My question is, do you think he said that... pretending to be dumb just because he thought it would be funny.
Or, was he actually that stupid? In other words he saw a state called new mexico. And he thought it literally meant it was a new mexico.
As in there already is Mexico. But he saw something that said new mexico. And he thought it was another version of that... A newer version of that.
Also, just in case you're wondering this is actually a serious question. But also, if you type a response to this question... let me know if you remember this episode (or at least this part from it) from when it aired. Like I do.

I remember that episode, but can’t remember which one it is. To put this into perspective, I have a friend who seriously thought Wisconsin was part of Illinois as opposed to being a whole separate state! It’s possible that Homer was really surprised to see there is a “NEW” Mexico and probably thinks it’s a different country like Mexico. Remember, Homer is not the brightest bulb in the marquee.

Remember, Homer is not the brightest bulb in the marquee. Agreed! IIRC, Monty Burns also said: "Wait a minute! There's a NEW Mexico?" Joker's Wilde

This is the character who didn't know bacon, ham and pork chops were all from the same animal. So what do you think?
