A Stephen King movie. Is it a horror movie? Some say yes, some say no, but it did make Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments for the scissors suicide scene, which is pretty ironic really.
It's a horrifying prospect though, that through means beyond your control, you can suddenly see the future, and age old story, nobody really believes you until it's too late, or damn near close.
I saw this movie once, maybe last year, year before, I don't remember, I liked it...was not really what I was expecting, and it's nice to know I wasn't the only one deliberately misled, because the basic understanding I had from seeing it on Bravo's 100 Moments was that the whole movie was about this assassination attempt.
Thoughts?

An underrated flick. Stephen King's story told with David Cronenberg's direction made for a nice combination. Walken was also a great lead as Sheen was a believably slimy politician.
I think it can be classed as horror with what the premonitions present.

I think I'd classify The Dead Zone as more of a thriller than a horror movie. In any case, it's a worthy adaptation of a superb Stephen King novel and David Cronenberg was the ideal director.

Does anybody think Walken's character overthought things at the end? That whole debate if you could go back in time and kill Hitler and you'd never make it out alive...why not? Why go for a big flashy assassination? Why not just beat him to death and make it look like a robbery gone wrong, or phony up a car crash?, etc. Granted the movie had a far more kickass 'gotcha' moment at the end because Walken tried things that way, but why wouldn't it occur to him make it look like a wrong place/wrong time mugging, etc?

I think Johnny Smith wanted to end his life too. So getting killed in the process of assassinating Stillson, who was heavily guarded by armed security, was an easy option.

I liked Colleen Dewhurst in this... It's not a straight up horror movie but there are some undertones. Nice performance from Walken. And a good cast. I've never watched the TV show.
