Iconic and nightmarish with imagination to boot. Then ‘Scream‘ would be my other choice. Probably my favorite horror director, not that that is saying much in my case. Also the most versitile. Supernatural slashers, backwoods freaks, Hill people, meta and parody, vampires, werewolves, cults, voodoo, cyborgs, Mutant swamp heroes and a drama about a music teacher that led to another Oscar nomination for Meryl Streep.

Going though his filmography when putting my list together, ‘My Soul to Take’ definitely got me curious in checking it out again. For some reason, when I last saw the ‘Slender Man’, the jarring/dreamlike tone/vibe kept reminding of Craven’s film. I think both films had production issues that screwed around with the final product.

The Hills Have Eyes Part II - 3.5/10 True, he was very elastic when it came to sub-genres within the horror genre. I’m not too sure if he got pigeon holed into the genre, or it was by choice. Never seen ‘Music of the Heart’, but it sticks out. Curious if that was a personal project for him? One thing I did find common though, was his climax’s/endings can disappoint me. I think ‘A Nightmare of Elm Street’ is perfect until the ending. Same for ‘Deadly Blessing’. While other films like ‘Serpent and the Rainbow’, ‘Red Eye’, People Under the Stairs’ etc I didn’t care for how the final acts play out.

Mediocre horror movie with a terrible final act.

Part 3 I didn't like back in the day. But I get it more now. The dark side of Hollywood. I've mellowed on it. I really like part 4. I'm not a huge fan of parts 5 and 6.

I’m just surprised ‘Music of the Heart‘ didn’t open up at least a few more opportunities outside the genre films. Maybe it did, but those offers Craven mightn’t have cared much for?

It was 90% filmed with a whole different cast and plotlines. And it was scrapped and filmed all over again multiple times. The original version is sitting in a Vault somewhere. Wes absolutely hated the experience.

They've messed with several movies... "Black Christmas" (2006) was heavily messed with. "We need Michelle Trachtenberg dragged by her eyeball sockets down a hall..."
