This Italian production, filmed largely Martinique, does a remarkable job of creating a sense that much of the cast and crew were American, by including well-known American actors in a few key parts, including James Franciscus as the star and bit parts by Van Johnson and Joseph Cotten.
It was released the same year as the more famous The Concorde...Airport'79, the last of the Airport series. That film's cast was packed with movie & tv celebrities (from Alain Delon, Robert Wagner and George Kennedy, to Charo and even Avery Schreiber). But I actually liked the Italian film a bit more. Ok, neither one is particularly good; they are late night before falling asleep material.
Interestingly, this was the last film of director Ruggero Deodato to be released before his infamous Cannibal Holocaust (1980), which was banned at the time of release in several countries, and which led to his arrest on charges of obscenity and trial for multiple counts of murder because some viewers were apparently convinced that the murders shown on film were real, not movie magic.
