As a kid, I didn't get it, & stayed away from its pop culture imprints at the time. Nowadays, I actually love its nice dead couple Baldwin/Davis trying to haunt & scare out the yuppies... Beetlejuice, while exceptionally well acted/improv'd by Keaton, isn't as much of the draw for me. Thankfully, Beetlejuice is only on screen for about 13.5 minutes or something, less is more. Winona Ryder is good... & yet from 1988 onward, I don't think I was ever in a class/at a workplace without someone trying to display that emo light darkness portrayal.
Hot take: I get that young ppl can find solace in the darkness or whatever... yet living life cuddling commercial goth & skull jewelry seems juvenile beyond 19yrs old or so. Try living life & stop burrowing yourself under shrouds.
