I was a big fan of The Simpsons for the first ten or so seasons. Then I stopped watching regularly, and soon after stopped watching at all. For at least ten seasons I didn’t watch a single episode. About eight years ago I started catching some episodes here and there, and then now I am watching it regularly again. It is not nearly as good as it was thirty years ago, but I still have some laughs.
Anyway, I recently subscribed to Disney+, and when I saw that they have the entire Simpsons catalogue I figured I would catch up with the seasons I missed. I watched one episode from s13 I think and it looked strange - as if it was originally meant for 4:3 TVs and had been formatted to 16:9 TVs by cutting the top and the bottom of the image. I wasn’t sure when the switch was done, but I knew for a fact that at the beginning the show was definitely broadcast in 4:3 format. So I checked an episode from season 1, and sure enough, it is being shown on Disney+ in the widescreen format, with the top and/or bottom of the image cut off. It looks horrible! Why would anybody choose to do that instead of showing the older episodes with bars on the left and right?

I don't have Disney+, but I do remember people complaining about the aspect ratio of the Simpsons. Very strange they would do that
