Begrudgingly I'll take International.

MIB: International is just forgettable mediocrity.
Ghostbusters (2016) is one of the laziest mainstream movies I have ever seen.

I'll actually take MIB: International over Ghostbusters: Afterlife too. Afterlife annoyed me more than Ghostbusters (2016), because it forgot to be a comedy and because the last act is some of the laziest nostalgia bait I have ever witnessed. The movie was okay until the Wal-Mart scene.

I'm more torn that I thought.
MIB: I. Its saving grace was it aimed lowed.
Ghostbusters had something it couldn't flesh out. It surprised me by being more enjoyable than I expected, even though it really sucked. It was doing well when it focused on Wiig + McCarthy's backstory, and it did its best work when the cast was gelling together. Clearly they're comfy working with each other. At the time they were all either SNL people or worked with each other before. The problems for me were shoehorning in the obligatory fan service. Having the originals show up as cameos was lame, I thought. That made the movie look like a dependent property. It had several recurring gags I like (Won Ton soup), but ultimately it was overrun by a bunch missing in the middle and a piss-poor villain.
I've seen worse than MIB: I. I thought it was a needless sequel. Tessa Thompson was good. Hemsworth was too, but he just such a bitch. Not worth the reveal of being kept on board for political reasons, even if it did excuse his unprofessional mediocrity and give TT something to be right about.
Ghostbusters imo dropped the ball, whereas MIB: I didn't aim for much higher than a bunt and a bunt it received. MIB: I imo is a better movie. Something they both did well is recruit casts that work well together.
I think I feel like Ghostbusters could have been better whereas MIB: I really could not have.

I don’t understand the widespread hatred for MIB: International. I thought it fulfilled its objective quite well.

I didn't think it was enjoyable. MIB I didn't mind. It was dumb, but it is entertaining enough thanks to the leads. The movie also had the added benefit of not irritating me. Ghostbusters didn't bother me because it is all-female, but because it takes some funny females and gives them crap to work with. These actresses deserved better and the fact that the sexist card is played when people dislike this movie angers me. No, I am not sexist, I am the opposite. I want actresses to be given good material to work with, not trash. They weren't given leftovers, they were given dumpster food to work with.

I bet John Travolta wishes people were able to forget that Battlefield Earth exists. I am not saying Ghostbusters is as bad as that, but Battlefield Earth has the benefit of being and unintentionally funny and ridiculous oddity.

Well the reason (or at least one of the reasons) the 2016 Ghostbusters became so infamous was because it had the misfortune of coming out during the presidential election and as such became used as a political football of sorts.

It wasn't enjoyable enough to watch a second time, but it was fine enough for me in the theater.
At the time the four leads in the same movie seemed like an interesting experience. There's lines I remember them making work. It was my first time ever seeing two of the four of them (Mackinnon and Leslie Jones) and somehow, despite the movie, it felt like watching stars in the making.

Well, I am glad you got some enjoyment out of the movie and Mackinnon and Lesie Jones. I just can't say the same. Oddly enough the one actress I actually think is the most tolerable in the movie is McCarthy, who I normally can't stand as a comedy actress. She is a good dramatic actress though. The biggest problem with the movie is the villain, who is awful. He is up there with the most boring villains in movie history imo. He is one step above Alan Cumming in Son of the Mask.
