I hope it's alright that I started this thread. Since no one else on here had done so yet, I thought it would be okay for me to. Apologies if somebody else wished to. As wmcclain always says 'Comments/ratings/recommendations/film posters are welcome and much appreciated'. My movie-watching for this past week: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Chaos Walking (2021). Balloon (2018).

An excellent new discovery, some wonderful rewatches and a dismal flop, our nightly viewing down here in Oz this week... Beautiful bountiful Barnet, Alyonka (1961) Soviet Union. Super stylish Japanese crime drama Nyotai sanbashi , Flesh Pier (1958) Directed by Teruo Ishii Poetic French romantic realism from Jean Grémillon, Remorques aka Stormy Waters (1941) Thanks to spiderwort's thread this week, dusted off this long forgotten classic and thoroughly enjoyed, shared some thoughts overthere. STT...Skipped through the first chapter hastily moving on from the excruciating morning bathroom routines, made it to the office where we shortly turned completely off, following a lackluster script with one too many, 'goddams' and 'what the hells' and a pimping scenario playing out that was simply pathetic... The film may have been a dramatic win for Jack Lemmon, however I cannot remember having turned off a film so soon, unbearable. A highly entertaining rewatchable series The Norman Conquests a filmed adaptation of a trilogy of plays written in 1973 by English playwright Alan Ayckbourn. Superb performances from a great cast of characters.... A new discovery, a standout highlight of the week, mentioned over at the Helmut Kautner thread, West German film Black Gravel (1961)

First time viewings: Blood on the Moon (1948):A stellar western “noir” with great performances by all the cast and wonderful direction by Robert Wise. Highly recommended. Re-watches: The Best Years of Our Lives (1946):In my opinion, one of the greatest American films ever made. A must-see for everyone. The Misfits (1961):Haven’t seen this in ages, and it held up so well, moving me deeply. One of Marilyn Monroe's best performances (matched well by all the cast), and excellent direction by John Huston with an outstanding script by Arthur Miller. The final film for both Gable and Monroe. A must-see for its historical significance alone. Since You Went Away (1944):Excellent WWII drama set on the Homefront. Thoughtful, moving, very well done. Highly recommended. The Birdcage (1996):A delightful film with excellent direction by Mike Nichols and wonderful performances by all cast. A joy to see. Highly recommended.
