Released June 18th, a week after Jurassic Park, it didn’t meet with quite the level of audience and critical acclaim as Arnold’s last movie. With it taking the piss out of action movie cliches, the movie itself would probably be better received today. It didn’t deserve to bomb as it can be pretty entertaining. In need of a hit, Arnold went back to Jim Cameron but that’s another story.

Actually decent if you keep your expectations in check.

Watched it for the first time about two years ago and I really had a lot of fun with it. I know it didn't do well at the box office but I don't think it deserves its reputation as being a bad film. It was almost like a real-life McBain movie.

No doubt is was overshadowed by Jurassic Park, and I agree it didn't deserve the backlash it received. I enjoyed Last Action Hero and I was amused how it spoofed all the conventions of the action genre and just about every cliché in the book. Having said that I don't find it to have the "rewatchability" factor, therefore it's not a movie that I would add to my collection.

It simply came out at the wrong time & place. Ppl weren't ready for meta PG action Arnold so soon after T2, he was still in his prime & I guess we weren't ready for that yet.
Its legacy has aged nicely though, it gets a lot of praise & admiration for what it was.
