YaYa Bey - brilliant
Warpaint-: BRiLLiANT
Foo Fighters - I like the Foos but this was a fuck!ng cacophonic row. Jolly disappointed
Sparks and Cate Blanchet - How Cool is that ?- Excellent
Arctic Monkeys - on now.....Intriguing....I have no familiarity with these folk at all....but eclectic , catchy set performed with proficiency and polishment. Lead singer wearing excellent suit. I will need to investigate this band. Crowd loving them.

I've made an effort to see bits and pieces as it's all playing on the BBC channels / platforms which I pay for. I agree the Foo Fighters were far from their best. The Arctic Monkeys have become a really good band (drummer was always strong) but it finally clicked with me why I find them hard to enjoy - the singer always seems to feel the need to be singing, rarely lets the music breathe, or uses his voice as an instrument, so I struggle to hear the music at times. Guns 'N' Roses were ultra-professional and put on a good show musically but Axl Rose has lost vocal power and struggled to project at times (like veteran performers Billy Idol and Russell Mael) in an expansive, open air setting.
Warpaint were of course terrific.
After two days my top 3 would begin with the Pretenders who brought Johnny Marr on to play alongside James Walbourne. Then, Lizzo for sure, she really knows how to put on a show. And if Lorde stole the daytime honours last year with some incredible set design and costuming, this year's prize goes to Maggie Rogers who was at her transcendent best (and backed by a red hot band like Lizzo).
Haim, Lizzo & Maggie Rogers

Hi Petro. Despite my lack of familiarity with their music .....I have to agree with you . What I saw seemed, for want of better phraseology, like he was the act......with a spiffing backing band.

Elton finishing Glasto as we speak. To be honest , although I've really liked a lot of his ballads over the decades, with of course Bernie Taupin's great lyrics......I have never liked his live performances.....Barking out his stuff . So far tonight , he's ruined every song he ever recorded...for me.
He's just doing Candle ....just done Your Song......and not too bad......but I've had a few beers.
One of his first guest stars, he forgot the name of the chap's group he said was a huge early influence.....but hey ho....Elt is getting on a bit, bless him.
He's just introducing Brandon Flowers as a guest now. I'm clinging on a bit......hoping Kate Bush may appear with him before night is out on his last ever UK gig .....but am flagging.
He's earned his cv and status in the studio.....mucho Kudos..........but live....nearly always a dirge, for me.
Headline act? .....mmmm.....I guess ok for legend appeal, and the audience did seem to be enjoying it and singing along on that level.....but I personally would have preferred something more enervating with a lot less barking and plinky plonk piano.

Laja Del Rey pulling off an Axel and being half an hour late cos of her hare I've always thought that perhaps not a great idea bringing a pet to festivals.

Still catching up with some Sunday blues but I saw some of Queens Of The Stone Age's set and they were rock solid.
Cat Stevens at 74 years of age brought the Sunday smiles, while 76-year old Elton John brought the weekend tears, and I loved every minute. Stevens hosted a concert like he was having tea in the park with friends. With so many veterans at these outdoor events struggling to control cracked voices (including Candi Staton who performed yesterday and is feeling the vocal strain at 83), I thought Stevens' warm, resonant vocal timbre sounded the strongest overall. The band sounded terrific and he's not lost a beat on guitar and keys.
I've seen pianists go down to arthritis, the shakes and the like who are decades younger than Elton John, but from a blistering 'The Bitch Is Back', all the way through the extended jazz excursion of a dynamic-laden 'Rocket Man' featuring Davey Johnstone's textured superslides (played on a 2-headed electric beast) running up against John's delicate jazz progressions (while Nigel Olsson and Ray Cooper played percussive call and response), it was a near-perfect ending if this is to be the end performance here in the U K. Some musicians attract great fans and this was a festival concert enlivened by a passionate, positive, packed crowd - so many pairs of colourful glasses, people dressed in outfits inspired by John's wardrobe across the decades, people in hats referencing destinations past. Matt Bissonette's constant, flowing bass improvisations provided a perfect fit for one of the hottest rock 'n' roll bands in history; I think Dee Murray would have enjoyed his work.

The crowd chanted "... coooop ... coooop ..." which tickled the band.
