I can't remember listening to it since the 80s. I must have done a couple of time but Metallica fell off my listening habit some time after 1992 and I never really returned. I remember playing Load and Reload in the car for a while when they came out, seeing them live once again at that time, then nothing.
The only Metal band I kept following was Overkill.
It is quite funny now to think that Kill'em All and Ride The Lightning were the last two vinyl records I bought after I had discovered the band with them on a tape a friend gave me. Both records remained virtually unplayed at my parent's home.

Album comes out in July instead of June. My mistake. Sorry on this. So consider this a dead thread since it was a mistake on my part. Maybe the moderators can remove the thread.

Appreciate the songs live, really funky like Seek and Destroy when they play them nowadays. Love Overkill

Appreciate the songs live, really funky like Seek and Destroy when they play them nowadays. Love Overkill I loved the stuff when it came out because it was just the plain thing I wanted to hear in Metal: hard, fast, relentless and without any of the melodic junk we'd get from other bands. When it came down to it, Metallica were giving pretty much what The Stooges had given in their time: unapologetic sonic impact with an undisguised intent to hit as hard as possible. James Hetfield's riffs were taking the role of Ron Asheton's wah and the impact was the same. But as time went on, the very repetitive quality of the music wore thin. Tracks are too long and you know they're going to play almost everything four times before anything else happens. Their first three albums are like listening to Haydn or Mozart (or worse, Schubert's Big Fat C Major symphony) with all the repeats. It's a bit of a chore. So I still like "…And Justice For All" but I no longer care to hear the earlier stuff. Overkill… that's different. I never got tired of them.

Well, today’s the anniversary. My third favorite album of theirs after the two that follow it. Four Horsemen is my favorite track, followed by Hit the Lights. Seek and Destroy is very overrated imo. It’s my third favorite song on the album, but I don’t see how people rank it in their top 10 overall Metallica songs. ![](https://lastfm.freetls.fastly.net/i/u/ar0/9849e2dc2f048cc92a87e29a3a3298db.jpg)

I know of a couple of friends of mine that are metalheads that spun this album in salute to this great album being released 40 years ago. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Awesome album - I LOVE the song "Whiplash". Joker's Wilde

Nothing really stands out for me on this album too much.
Except for the song that they have on it, that is basically their e l p song. Their song on this album, that is actually like a song by that band.

Master of Puppets Ride the Lightning Justice for All The black Album
That's about the phase I was (and still) listening to them.
Quite recently I even bought two T-Shirts (MoP and RtL).
I stop buying there CDs after Load/Re-Load...I got the impression they started to care more about to please the critics than the fans.
