My opinion is this:
The best example of bad music from the 1980's is one band. And that band would be Yaz.
In other words if there was one representation of how bad music was in the 80's it would be this band.
I mean really. Because there's this one band depeche mode. This band isn';t even as good as them. This band is like a poor man's depeche mode.
Basically, no other band summarizes how bad 1980's music in general was... more than this one band.

The 1980's music was fun. I had the best times of my life in the 80's.

Absolute floods of Tommy Rot.
The 8Os was indeed my Fave decade , as Wicked just stated....fun.....and fun, with some more fun sprinkled on top.
Musically was SO bloody rich...... fusion, electronica, new wave, fresh and shiny new hip-hop/rap, post punk, rock, ska, etc everything going on.
U2, Prince, Ultravox, Depeche Mode, Pretenders, Stranglers, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, B-52s Madonna, Ac/Dc, Bowie, Ah-ha, Kate Bush, De La Soul, Inner City, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Bjork, Cyndi Lauper, Japan, Talking Heads, Queen, New Order, Souixee & The Banshees, Grace Jones, Simple Minds, Smiths, ......it's fucking Endless.
We have music on where I work, and the 'youngsters' are forever pressing & moaning to get the current , mainstream pop, auto tuned, knocked out sh!te turned off in favour of the 8Os channels or cds.
The local young bands I know revere the 8Os music, and my 5 kids, 3 of whom are talented musicians, perform and play a huge chunk of 8Os.
I can name easily about 15 current acts that i adore and I think are brilliant, but are not top 20 pop chart fodder.
But as an experiment.....if anyone picks randomly any 2 or 3 weeks from the 8O's top twenty singles, UK, USA or otherwise, you will probably know about over 75% of the acts and songs.
In 2 years time, I would bet serious dollar that over 75% of the songs in today's top twenty would not be remembered .
You are a twit Ms Treep.

Looks like one person misunderstood what I said.
I aint saying this decade was a bad time for music. Just that one band is the best example of the bad aspects , of all the horrible music from this time.
See, you can like this decade in general, but still recognize that a lot of music was also terrible. Obviously...

I can't even find this Yaz band or person. Other than Carl Yastrzemski or his grandkid.
Worst artists at the time were the ones that used midi-quality synth or were only popular due to MTV. Definitely some good bands and songs, but not my favorite decade. For a bunch of artists, I preferred their 70s output.

Yes you are and yes you did.........And no I didn't misunderstand and no..I dont agree with your opinion of 1980s music. Or Meryl Streep. I must really stop reading, reacting to and responding to your pointless drivel.

I can't even find this Yaz band or person. Other than Carl Yastrzemski or his grandkid. Would also be listed under the name Yazoo (in Europe). You would probably know the songs "Situation" and "Don't Go" to hear them. Plus, I didn't find out until YEARS later that Alison Moyet was the lead singer. AND, I was this many years old when I found out Vince Clarke was the other band member. He was also in Depeche Mode and currently in the band Erasure. To answer the OP's question: There were lots of cheesy bands in the 80s - some of them were so bad, they were good. For me, in my iTunes library, a LOT of songs are on it that came out in the 80s. So, they will live on forever with me. I....for one.....am OK with that. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Joker's Wilde

Yet...the first time I heard that song, I thought....that voice sounds SO familiar. I knew Moyet from her solo works "Invisible" and "Is This Love?" I forgot about the latter song, so I had to download that from iTunes. The song was also featured on a commercial for a retro handheld gaming unit. For the life of me, I can't remember what it is/was. Joker's Wilde
