I never thought I would see the day when I wouldn't be excited to see a new Indiana Jones entry, but yet here I am. So, no. If I do, it will be as a favor to a friend.

I thought it was pretty good. Just the opening alone, set in 1944 WWII, packs more punch than Crystal Skull. I watched Raiders immediately afterwards because I was in a Jonesing mood. Despite being the longest in the series, it moves at a pretty good pace. Even at his advanced age, Ford is still thoroughly believable in the title role. Phoebe Waller-Bridge also brings a lot of energy as well. I may feel differently when seeing it the next time but it ends the series (or at least Ford’s time) on a mostly positive note.

My ranking of this movie compared to the rest was pretty much spot on to what I predicted. The opening flashback sequence is likely the best part of the movie, but I still had a good time overall. Just a good old-fashioned adventure and I was surprised how into the action sequences I was even with Ford pushing 80 years old when filming (although I acknowledge there were stunts and other tricks used during those scenes). And they actually respect the character well enough. There's also that ending that was pretty out there but I thought it worked for the fantasy and wonder element this franchise always presented.
As for Phoebe Waller-Bridge, she was kinda annoying and snarky but not as unbearable as a lot of people say and I'd take her over Willie from ToD pretty much any day of the week.

I saw it on Thursday night. It's slightly better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in some ways, but even that film had better pacing and Steven Spielberg's fluid camerawork that made the franchise what it is. The prologue is easily the best part of the film. The deaging technique looked good in some shots while it looked too polished in others. Unfortunately, they kept Harrison's aged voice in the sequence so it's really uncanny to see a young Harrison talking with an old man's voice. I have a bit nitpick in which Jorgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) survives a hit on a locomotive bell on a moving train that would knock his head clean off. Flash to 1969 and the second act feels a little clunky. Helena's (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) comedic snark is bearable only for so long. The film is pretty light on physical humor. The action set pieces were pretty thrilling although I was a little shocked at innocent civilians being shot. (For example, a college secretary and a family driving a car in Tangier are killed.) There are some subplots that are dropped and never resolved. There was some issue with Helena's ex-fiancée that could have been dropped entirely. There's also Indy being framed for murder which the movie completely forgets about. Other than that, Harrison Ford gives a really good send-off performance to his iconic character. John Williams gives his usual bombastic musical score. I guessed beforehand what the third act would be and it's a stretch to be honest. Overall, I think with a more streamlined story and shorter run time, it could have been a really good film, but for the most part, I enjoyed it. I'll see it again in theaters.

I liked it a lot more than anyone else here seems to, I thought it was a rousing send-off for the franchise and did the character proud. I enjoyed Phoebe Waller-Bridge, she wasn't a Mary Sue which I'm sure all the Disney haters were hoping for; she was a flawed character and somewhat unlikeable at times. Harrison gave a strong performance, but since he has always had a strong love for the character of Indy that's not surprising. Nice ending scene, very heart warming and sentimental. 4.5 / 5 from me.

Just saw it. It’s fine. Its not some deconstruction of the franchise, nor does it really feel like Indy was upstaged by Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character, if that’s what people were worried about.

I didn't mind her and I agree she isn't a Mary Sue, but I have still seen people who have seen the movie call her that. The character who bugged me most was that teenage boy, who is a complete bore of a character. He has no chemistry with anyone and feels like he is only there to be this movie's version of Short Round. Also, why cast Antonio Banderas in such a thankless role? It is distracting.

Not even close imo. I normally don't go this route, but I think there is definitely sexism playing a part in some people's response to her character. I have seen people complain about her being mean to Indy all the time, but I think that is the point - she isn't meant to be likable for the majority of the movie.

I feel exactly the same way and while the third act is a stretch, I liked it a lot. I just went with it. Mangold is no Spielberg and it shows even when compared to Crystal Skull, which is Spielberg phoning it in. Though I enjoy that movie as cheese.
