I believe this is pretty rare.
The Shield and maybe The Sopranos are the only two I can think of.

I believe this is pretty rare. I agree. Off the top of my head I can't think of any favorite shows where the last season is the best season. Pretty much every show I love had some issues with its final season. I'd say the one that maintained its quality level the best throughout its final season was Personal of Interest. The problem here is that CBS did not own the show, and cancelled it purely because it wasn't as profitable for them. So the final season was thirteen episodes instead of twenty-two. But thankfully, the showrunners had plenty of time to prepare for the end, and delivered a wholly satisfying conclusion.

I can`t think of any shows like that.
At least not with American shows. I agree that Person of Interest was great though out its entire run, but i don`t think it got better with each season, but still one of the best shows ever made.
when it comes to British shows, i think Blackadder got better with each series. but they only made 24 episodes. Its not that hard to get better and better when you only have 6 episodes per series and you make 4 series.

I think Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones also got better with each season until the fourth but then dropped starting with fifth.

Breaking Bad. Maybe The Shield, but 5 is better than 6 with that one.

Mom, up until the last one anyway. Totally agree. I wanted more closure for Christie and did they have to give Adam the possibility of cancer on the finale? The last show was one big rush.

Corner Gas (cult classic show in Canada).
First couple of seasons - it was still finding its way into Canadian households. By season 3, it was a 'can't miss' show.
Ended after season 6. Brent Butt, the creator and lead actor of the show, said season 6 would be the last. He wanted it to end before the concept got stale.
It also did spawn the "Corner Gas Animated" series. All of the characters in the live action series (with the exception of Emma - Brent's mother) came back to voice the character for the animated series.
It went on for a couple of seasons. It....had its moments.

Star Wars The Clone Wars, it still had some bad eps in the later seasons but the overall quality got better and better.

Huh? It has one of the worst finales in TV history. The rest of the season was good I guess but was rendered kind of pointless since it leads to a big nothingburger.

Just finished season 1 and it's already so good so this is great to hear. Only issue I have is the randomness of the order of episodes/stories, and Grevious and Ventress' plot armor (something I'm assuming will be improved later on, as it seems they started to realize this due to having them feature less). Hope to see much more of them but without the plot armor tropes.

One of the most intense and suspenseful shows I have ever seen. Currently watching the Handmaid's Tale which gives me a similar feel, despite being quite different.

Haven't seen any of The Handmaid's Tale. I already have too many shows to catch up, but knowing myself, I could start it anyway now...🙄
