Any fans of the "South of Heaven" album by the metal band Slayer? How has it held up after 35 years? The band slows things down a bit with this album after the popular "Reign in Blood". But slowing things down seemed liked a logical choice since the band members felt they couldn't outdo what they did on "Reign in Blood". What the album lacks in speed, it makes up for with good songs and solid band member performances overall for a pretty good album. Most people know of songs like "South of Heaven" and "Mandatory Suicide", but I think there are also memorable tracks like "Silent Scream", "Ghosts of War", "Behind The Crooked Cross", and "Spill The Blood".

I agree that slowing things down was the logical approach after "Reign in Blood". On that album they were pretty much playing at the limits of human endurance, and burned themselves out after 29 minutes. So yes, I like this album. I like "Seasons in the Abyss" even more! But that's a topic for another thread.

The title track is in my top 5 Slayer songs, and those other songs you listed are good (well not really a fan of Spill the Blood) but the rest of the album kinda falls flat.
