B-The first Indy sequel I've not rated a B+. It just lacked charm of each previous. I like Skull enough for its pacing, bright environs, & playful behaviour. This one missed Spielberg for me, & his less intense lens. 6.5 I'll give it a 7. SPOILERS+- High highs. Opening train sequence was quite excellent & I knew we were in a flashback so as not to feel puzzled. Antikythera mechanism is a genius MacGuffin, with real world history & lore. Believe nearly everything they say about it, it's truly thousands of years ahead of its time in real life - it could be something, it could be nothing, yet a legit puzzler upon generations to date. - Indy when he's acting his age & gruff actually works best - true to life. - I appreciate going all-in with the MacGuffin & sending Indy & co. back to Roman times. If we can do dimensional E.T.'s & melting faces, we can go back in time via one of history's greatest artifacts. I was afraid we were actually going to 1939 for full Nazi nonsense, instead we get a closed loophole for the Antikythera with propellers & wristwatch. -- Too long. The Tangiers car chase was Michael Bay'ish, with zero nuance & just loud speed & crashing, & conversation between hurtling cars?? - could've been more innocent/playful &/or far shorter or cut. NYC parade the same, just loud & kindof obnoxious really. - Helena Shaw goddaughter is borderline insufferable. Why is she smirking 24/7 whether a party or being shot at by Nazis? I was never rooting for her once. Willie was more enjoyable than that. - Mutt's explanation on the boat seemed so dark & dire. Could've been told in Indy's small apartment near the beginning or end (with Marian) as a bookend.

I won't go to a movie theater anymore so I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD (hopefully soon as I'm an old lady). I wish they would have done a sequel while Harrison Ford was still plausible as Indy.

Somewhere between September and October.
