Genesis from 1983?
As far as their music goes. Only their albums from selling england up through abacab are good.
So this album doesn't work for me. It is their first album where no song seems connected with the other songs.
It's kind of all over the place, can't really dig it. Because, when they made and then their were three. Which is the worst out of their best albums. At least all songs had a similar feel. They all seemed like they belonged on the same album.
I don't know, it's like a lot of the songs here seem like they were almost made by enterely different bands. ...Almost.

Trick of the Tail is ok, but I'll take everything up to Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, and that album is bloated.

Actually here's the ranking. No one has this ranking maybe, other than me.
trick of the tail is number 1
duke
wind and wuthering
SeBtP
abacab
the Lamb
then their were 3
Genesis
nursery cryme Pretty much almost all the songs are good. But pretty much all the longer songs sort of have filler in some songs. In other words some of the instrumental parts in them are pretty lame. This is a problem they wouldn't fix until just after foxtrot.
their debut
invisible touch
foxtrot. It's this low because too much filler. Some of it is killer, but some filler.
tresspass
we can't dance
Only the first 7, are essential.
Then again, how many bands are good enough to make 7 great albums? Not too many, which is why genesis is a very good band.
I'm not a smart person.

I will rank the Genesis albums up to, but not including the eponymous, self-titled album. I have not heard that or the later albums in their entirety. I was very put off by Abacab.
In descending order of quality:
01. Nursery Cryme 02. Wind and Wuthering 03. Selling England By the Pound 04. Foxtrot 05. A Trick of the Tail 06. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway 07. Duke 08. Trespass 09. And Then There Were Three 10. From Genesis to Revelation
I did not include live albums and compilations.

I'll say one thing I know. As far as the peter gabriel genesis albums.
Just ignore the lyrics, I have no idea what he's ever singing about anyway. It's just the delivery of it, that's the important thing.
That's what I do. And then I dislike the gabriel genesis less. I even dislike get em out by friday less... by doing that.
Why? For one thing the song makes no sense. Also, I even like the battle of epping forest by ignoring lyrics alltogether.
Let's just say, I'm a little slow at appreciating music.
