Don't know if anyone even realized that I was gone, but our internet was out for 3 weeks in June and the entire month of July. It was the only company we had an option with so we were out of luck. Finally found that we could get Verizon and signed up with them. It was several days to get the router, then we needed a longer cord to hook up and that took another couple of days to get from Amazon. SO, we finally got the internet back this afternoon. Fingers crossed it keeps working!! Good to be back out in the world!!

Thanks, nutsberryfarm! It's good to be back. You don't realize how attached you are to the internet until it's gone. Couldn't pay bills, check bank account, library account, e-mail, etc. It was like we were back in the 'dark ages'!! Verizon seems to be working well for us and it's only about half the price of our previous hook-up. We had Century Link as a phone service, then internet. We got rid of our landline, but used it for internet service. It sold to Brightspeed and that's when the trouble started. Thankfully, we finally found Verizon. Don't need a phone line for it, but it was a struggle to get it to work. The router had to be in a window and we needed a really long cord to connect to the computer. None of their stores in the area carried one, but we finally got one from Amazon. So far, so good!!

When technology doesn't work its a real pain in the arse. My 2 month old month phone (Lively) didn't work for the third time yesterday, very . I wish we still had our landline.

Hi, sweet Sunshine ... and all.
I have to admit that I don't come to this V 2.3, anywhere near as often I used to. The lack of any current events/politics has, truly, put a damper on my overall interest. However, I can fully understand the hesitancy, and rationale for "platform" administrators' concerns.
As wonderful as "modern tech" is, its inherent problems can cause concerns. I subscribe to a YouTube channel that has a week-day morning chat. Two regular "chatters," are on Maui. One lives there, and the other is from California, and was visiting with her family. It was only on Friday, that we were able to confirm that both were accounted for, and well. The resident doesn't live in the burned-out area, and the other's family is on the other side of the Maui. WHEW!!
So, it's good of you to contact. We should all keep in touch.
(That said, I may go to Ireland/Scotland, in late Sept., and early Oct. Will keep you posted.)

I feel so sad about that old banyan tree, it was the heart of the town and we spend a lot of time just sitting under the branches watching life go by, it was still all dirt under the tree at that time, recent photos show what looks like concrete pavers under it. I feel so bad about the loss of life, think of all the animal life that has been lost. We used to share our meals with the various cats hanging around the open air restaurants . I feel very sad.

WKM, I've heard hopeful reports about the banyan tree. I've heard that it's charred, but that the roots are so deep, that it might very well pull through. I hope so.
I've never been to Maui. A former colleague had a time-share on the northwest shore of Oahu, which he didn't often use. He had willing "takers" around the office, and I stayed there 3 times.
I think, when Maui starts to encourage tourist $$$, again, that I'll plan a visit.

Our favorite restaurants also burned to the ground, Kimo's says they will rebuild. Mama's Fish House also burned to the ground, I made the waiter mad there because a little kitty decided to sit in my lap and eat one of my twin lobster tails (I never ate lobster before and didn't like it), Wkd quickly grabbed the other lobster tail. I was happy with my veggies. We will never go back to Maui but we have very fond memories of that beautiful island.

My ex and I went to Kauai in 1983. A lot of things in our book that we wanted to check out were destroyed by Hurricane Iwo the year before. The islands are no stranger to devastation.
