Sounds fun. I guess it's time to admit I've never seen any of The Toxic Avenger movies.
*Suddenly inspired to make a thread about famous horror movies you've never seen* 🤔

Surprised there has not yet been any teaser trailer put out yet. Not exactly "won" over by the lame movie poster, which looks more like something from The Iron Giant meets Ratchet and Clank the video game franchise. Hopefully it will be a pleasant and fun watch, and the cast sure looks promising. I think it has been at least some 10-15 years of rumours going on, before finally the real deal seems to arrive. Arnold Schwarzenegger and director Steve Pink was also heavily talked about for a time, but I guess it was not meant to be. Sounds fun. I guess it's time to admit I've never seen any of The Toxic Avenger movies. *Suddenly inspired to make a thread about famous horror movies you've never seen* 🤔 I would highly recommend the 1984 original, as it is such a wild ride with satire, black comedy, over the top violence, crazy characters and just so much of the classic Troma sleaze and cheese. By the way, the entire thing is uploaded on Youtube for free:

I watched the animated series when I was a kid. I never did, it was before my time I guess, but I was amazed to learn later on that a Saturday morning cartoon based on a Troma movie existed. That's wild.

I watched the animated series when I was a kid. I never got to watch the series, but I remember some of the kids at school had a few neat and brand new action figures, which kind of resembled that of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, also including some mutant slimy green ooze bottles. There was an attempt in some local toystores, to redo the success Turtles had, by handing out a freebie of the very first Toxic Crusaders Comic, but this was around 1991-92, and not long after, both the toys were gone, and there was never anymore comics out from the Crusaders. It was not until much later, I found out The Toxic Avenger and Crusaders were the same, well, one being a very violent and wild live action film, the other a cartoon targeted for kids. Almost picked up a box-set on DVD, even though I have all the films, but this came with the mentioned cartoon. Sadly, the price was just way too high, and have a feeling that most of these episodes probably is uploaded somewhere, for free.

Had a bit of the same reaction, when I much later on learned about there was Turtles before the 1987-1996 cartoon show, and they were actually quite more menacing and violent as well. I bet loosing out on all that money from potential toy merchandises and tv-success, it must have been quite a letdown for Lloyd Kaufman and Troma. However, according to IMDb, it says it went on from 1991-93, so maybe the show did far better in other countries. There was quite a few similar mutant-acton animated series, probably one too many, and not all could replicate the phenomenom that was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Street Sharks was another one, which the toys were seemingly popular, but cannot remember that any tv-show or comic books arrived, and then came Bikermice From Mars, who kind of took over from Turtles for a while, until Power Rangers came.

The original version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a more adult black and white underground comic book series which was almost like a parody of Daredevil, from what I understand. They softened it up to sell it to kids later on, but it was very much directed at teens and twenty somethings at first. Now that you mention it, I do remember StreetSharks being a thing for a brief moment in time, but have never heard of BikerMice from Mars. That sounds crazy. It was an interesting time for these cartoon shows. I remember watching the Beetlejuice cartoon when I was a kid, and there were shows like the animated Robocop series as well that were wholly inappropriate movies for kids (although I watched all these things at a very young age) that spawned these cartoon shows. Another very unlikely success that I remember was the series Gargoyles. It seemed that off of the strength and the success of Batman the Animated Series was having Disney wanted their own 'dark' animated kids show but with IP that they could own, so they created this show about Gargoyles on buildings in New York City that would come to life and help a young female police detective solve crimes. I remember liking it, but I haven't watched it in forever.

I remember liking it, but I haven't watched it in forever. I have still not found any of the original black and white comic books of the Pater Laird and Kevin Eastman Turtles franchise, which always seems to be either outsold or out of production, at least within the few comic bookstores left in my city. Should probably just order it online. Yeah, I also heard stories that the original Turtles was some kind of a Daredevil meets Frank Miller parody, but which hit off big, and maybe even bigger when toy companies got hold of the opportunies at that time. Biker Mice from Mars could just be one of those shows, which hit off bigger in certain countries, as I remember it was just as big as Turtles for a short while, but never quite manage to hold on to the same level of success for as long. Already by 1995, many would just jump on to the next big thing, which was probably Power Rangers. The series has enjoyed somewhat of a comeback, but never as many as Turtles or Transformers, of the late 80s and early 90s shows. Gargoyles, now that is a show I recently had a pleasant visit with, and not sure if I ever had known of, until this year, when I caught up with it. Was very impressed at how detailed both the animation and the stories turned out to be, and felt like a worthy rival to that of Batman the Animated Series. But once more, another show which I think never made it on Norwegian television, and hard to believe it was a product of the classic Disney animated show era, with DuckTales, New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Goof Troop and lots of others. This made me very interested in what other animated shows one has missed out on, from the 80s and 90s. Can't watch them all, but probably a lot easier to try now, than when you were a child.
