Terrifier 2 (2022) Art the Clown returns to terrorize a teenager and her younger brother. Art is also helped out by a demonic little ghost girl.
An improvement over the first Terrifier. Better story, better production values, and rich character development. And the violence and gore is pushed to new heights with unrelenting nastiness and brutality. At the same time director Damien Leone displays a macabre sense of humor; the darkest of its kind. David Howard Thornton reprises his role as Art the Clown and he delivers an amazing performance.
This is truly for the most hardcore of horror fans. With a running time of 2 hours and 18 minutes, I'm guessing this surely has to be the longest slasher flick?
7/10

Probably a 5/10. I'll likely forget all about it next week. But at the same time it occupied an hour and a half of my time so ot did the trick. There are so many horrors I watched this month that are like this.

The Forbidden Photos Of A Lady Above Suspicion (1970; Luciano Ercoli)Ravishing redhead Dagmar Lassander is blackmailed by a creepy knife-wielding bloke who threatens to expose that her husband is a killer. Lovely Dagmar is so much in love with her hubby, that she's willing to do everything it takes to protect him. Sounds sleazy, huh? Sadly most of the erotic stuff takes place off-screen making this a suprisingly tame early giallo with the plot going in circles for most of its running time. The blackmailer (Simon Andreu) keeps asking for more and the lady is willing to give it to him, making theirs a rather one-sided relationship. The late twist is a bit lame too. However it looks and sounds fantastic with stylish cinematography and set design and Ennio Morricone delivering the goods again for the funky soundtrack. 6/10

And it probably shouldn't be. I found it waaay too long. Most of the time I think the complaints of a long runtime are overblown, but this movie clearly has moments and scenes that just drag on and on and kill the mood. The most obvious one is that 'Clown Cafe' song nightmare sequence. It could have been really effective at like 3 mins or so, but at 8 and half minutes it really breaks the spell. It's populated by people who clearly aren't really actors and just seem like the director's friends and family, and inexplicably every single one of them gets a closeup. It goes on and on and on and ruins what could have been a really compelling moment. There are others too. This movie really could have used a good trimming, and even though there's a lot more in the way of character and story than the first one had, the brisk 90 or so minutes of the original would have been more appropriate for the sequel.

Yes I agree, it could have used some trimming. When I rented it from streaming and saw the running time listed in the general info, I actually thought it was an error.

Just finished Silent Night the 2012 version with Malcolm McDowell (which was why I watched it). Had some interesting enough kills in it. Pretty mindless of a film but at the same time held my attention enough. I wasn't aware that there are multiple horror films regarding a guy dressed as Santa Claus going on a killing spree. Probably a 5/10. I'll likely forget all about it next week. But at the same time it occupied an hour and a half of my time so ot did the trick. The movies get weirder as they go along. 3 are about a killer Santa. One is about a Coven. And one is about killer toys. But the "Silent night" reboot I usually watch around Christmas. Fun Slasher.

It is a little overlong, but I feel like it’s pretty much the extended cut of the film without ever having a non-extended cut. I know that sounds stupid, but what I mean by that is that the film was almost entirely crowdfunded. I feel like the director got the money, was shocked by how well it went over and was like “let’s give them their monies worth.” He presented the longest cut first. Sure it could be trimmed down, but I kind of dug how all out it goes on everything.

Watched the original Exorcist last night before bed. I had probably the worst nightmare I have ever had and it was about being demon possessed. Im still freaked out.

Mortuary (2005)
This is a very dumb low-budget movie directed by Tobe Hooper. One of his worst, but not without some entertaining craziness thrown in. It kind of feels like Hooper just throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. It is about a family that moves into a funeral home where a fungus transforms people into zombies. It is very poorly written and the directing is all over the place. What starts as sort of creepy ends up just being a ridiculous unfocused mess. The acting is alright for the kind of movie it is and really the main thing that kept me watching is I did find the main character to be likable. Unless you are a huge fan of Tobe Hooper and just have a desire to complete his filmography I would recommend avoiding this movie.

American Gothic...1988 film, watched this on prime...Its about 80 percent a Texas Chainsaw clone...but that extra 20 percent makes it very memorable for me. Great ending that you see coming but didn't hurt my appreciation for it.

Guess I should have read your original post more closely when you indicated 'rewatch'. Egg on my face.

Beyond The Door III (1989) High school students on a field trip to Yugoslavia encounter Devil worshippers. The cult plans to force one of the female students to be the bride of Satan.
It seemed like this was on to something interesting at first, but then gets derailed with a tiresome subplot involving a runaway train. Some inconsistancies with the story as well. I don't know if the editing was at fault here, but certain things didn't make much sense. I do, however, give this credit for some decent gore effects.
Like Beyond The Door II, this has absolutely nothing to do with the 1974 potboiler.
4/10

Raising Cain is something of the original Split. John Lithgow was great, rest of the movie not so much. I thought De Palma got over ripping off Hitchcock by the 90s.
Did a trilogy of Stephen King movies I never saw, for apparently good reason. Dark Half has a cool concept, buried under a bunch of cocaine fueled nonsense. Unlike Lithgow, Hutton sucked in duel roles.
The Mangler was...bizarre. I don't know why Hooper directed everyone as if the entire cast was the extended family of the Sawyers. It also has the lamest monster of perhaps any movie I've ever seen. A haunted press thingamajig...just don't get close to it. Movie over.
The original Firestarter. A couple of unintentional laughs, but not enough to carry the long and dull movie. George C Scott kicked ass, though.

11 days into the challenge, and the scariest thing I've encountered is Pierce Brosnan's French accent in Nomads.
