Skinamarink (2022) If you like your film consisting of shots of lego, furniture, ceilings and so much grain you cant see half of the film, than this is for you. The true horror was its running time.

I did a Julien Sands trilogy (Warlock, Warlock 2, and Argento's Phantom of the Opera) followed by a Johnny Depp one (The Ninth Gate, Dark Shadows, From Hell). I was not expecting Ninth Gate to be as campy as it was. And even though I knew From Hell wouldn't be good, it was so much worse than I expected.
Was hoping to wash the taste out of my mouth with The Lodger (1944), which William Friedkin named as one of his 13 favorite horror movies. This is a Jack the Ripper movie where he kills stage dances (re: not destitute backalley prostitutes) and gets caught at he end. Thanks, Hayes Code!
Capped my birthday off with Five Nights at Freddy's. Never played the game, but is it better than the movie? I thought it was kinda lame. Good to see my boy Matthew Lillard getting live action work, though.

So I got around to watching Scream 2022 & Scream 6. I thought the 2022 film was solid. However Scream 6 was a bore. Never have I found a Scream film to be a drag, but Scream 6 took the mantle. Outside of the opening, and the train scene. I really had trouble staying invested in this film. And on top of that the climatic reveal and pay-off fell flat. Easily my least favourite of the franchise. I enjoyed re-watching Scream 3 more. And that had to do with the performances. Scream 6 didn’t have that same luxury.

I didn’t mind them in Scream 2022, but for Scream 6 they got more screen time, and for me left even less of an impression. The mystery/drama in-between the slasher set-pieces didn’t engage me. Kirby and Gale were also wasted. Though, their inclusions in the plot felt weakly shoehorned, especially Kirby’s appearance and obvious red herring plot device. Scream 6 probably would have had more impact for me, if someone (or two) of importance was killed. Or the killer/s were core characters with all this talk about core characters. I didn’t feel it had the same stakes as the previous film. And the ending only cemented it.

So what’s everyone planning to watch on Halloween day/night? Or are you heading out with movies the furthest thing on mind?
So far I’ve watched Scream 6. Planning later tonight to re-watch Ravenous & The Church (1989). And maybe one more film, if time permits.

I enjoyed the 5th film, but didn't love the new characters and in 6 it was more of a problem.

Me and my sister already decided to do a Stephen King night, so we have Misery, 1408 and The Shining planned

I'm probably going to rewatch Deep Red, plus some spontaneous picks.

Razorback (1984; Russell Mulcahy) I'm not sure, what I was expecting, but certainly not something this trippy. There were moments when I thought I was watching a Nicolas Roeg movie. In-between the whole thing even threatened to turn into a gigantic bore (sorry, cheap pun!), with far too much time spent on the annoying rednecks populating the Outback instead of giving us more of the boar. The environmentalist message was a bit muddled too. The incredible cinematography by Dean Semler is a marvel though. 6/10

Only had one Drive by last year. I dunno about you guys but I will be skipping the "Halloween" franchise. After "Ends" I'm putting it on the back burner awhile. I'm a bit burned out on Horror. And will wrap it up tonight. I started during the Summer. But this has been fun reading the Discussion.

On the other hand I haven't gotten to most of what I would have liked to have watched, which I knew would be the case, but I may try to catch up on some stuff in November.

Most likely some classic War movies on Tubi. Throw in a few Westerns.

I gave up on that after 3. Talk about a tired concept.
Not sure what I will watch tonight. Charlie Brown probably. Usually I watch the Legend of Sleepy Hollow Disney cartoon but I am not sure I will this year.

I had to do class and some homework for the day but finally watched Nosferatu afterward and I think that will be all for the night. Thought I would save a 100 y/o revered classic for the final day. There are apparently different versions of the film but I watched a copy on YouTube that ran for 95 minutes with the original German text (though the video still had English captioning to compensate). Aside from the silent aspect it holds up quite well. Count Orlok is creepy and it has some striking visuals and atmosphere. I heard it is a more faithful adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula compared to the 1931 film, but I think I prefer Nosferatu regardless. With that said, hope everyone else had a great one this year! 🎃

Scream 5 and Scream 2022 are one and the same. The title didn't have a number as a cheeky reference to other legacy sequels like Halloween 2018 and Candyman 2021.

Whether 6 is worse than 3 is something I've internally debated for months. As you said, 3 at least has some good performances, between Parker Posey's scene stealing and Neve Campbell turning in probably her best work in the franchise. Cox and Arquette were overused and started to feel like caricatures of their characters, but at least they still had that built in good will from 1 and 2. This is two movies in a row of me not giving a damn about the new characters, and in the case of Randy's niece and nephew, finding them outright annoying. And it really can't be understated how ridiculous the third act is. Between the gaping plotholes of the killer(s) and their motivations, and the fact that everyone suddenly can shrug off multiple stab wounds like nothing, the franchise officially jumped the shark for me. This makes Sidney's long lost brother and his magical voice changer that can perfectly duplicate everyone look like documentary footage.
