I found it a little hard to get into the Challenge this year, I suspect as a result of one of my oldest friends dying suddenly (aged 46) on September 30th. That took the wind out of my sails some and I found it kind of hard to get fully invested in movies about murder and death and monsters... but I powered through because I'm such a trouper (ghoul).
I had some fun again but less, I think, than I've ever had. At this stage I feel like I won't fully take part next year but I'm hoping my stupid ass will come to its senses by the end of next September.
Thanks once again to LostinLimbo for hosting and thanks to everyone else who took part, I don't post here much but I always read your posts and enjoy your comments.
All the best, stay weird.

last night I watched the following:
Bio-Zombie (Wilson Yip, 1998)
Very weird little zombie comedy from Hong Kong. Follows a couple of movie bootleggers who work in a mall as a zombie outbreak starts. It’s fairly amusing, but doesn’t work fully for me personally. Still, worth a watch. 6/10
Magic Cop (Wei Tung, 1990)
I’m so glad I watched this one later in the year. While it doesn’t say so in the title, this is very much inspired by the Mr. Vampire movies (which I finally watched in September) to the point that it may as well be the 5th one. It has many of the same actors (including the lead) but taking place in 1990 Hong Kong and instead of being a priest, he’s a cop who specializes in supernatural occurrences. No hopping vampires here, but there is magic duels. Lots of fun. 8/10

Sorry to hear. Hope to see you on the boards even if you're not planning to be hear. Horror can be comforting, so you may find yourself returning to it to some degree, but I totally get why you'd be a little put off. For entirely different and happier personal reasons I haven't been able to watch much of anything this year, and I do miss catching up with old faves and new views of older films and new releases. Maybe you and I will be able to get into it more next year.

So what’s everyone planning to watch on Halloween day/night? Or are you heading out with movies the furthest thing on mind? So far I’ve watched Scream 6. Planning later tonight to re-watch Ravenous & The Church (1989). And maybe one more film, if time permits. I was gonna do an old B movie marathon, starting with It Came From Outer Space which I got on blu ray in its original 3D presentation, followed by a bunch of William Castle movies I hadn't seen. But in between I decided to go out for a few hours and see the vibe in the city. When I got back, I managed to do Thirteen Ghosts and about half of The Tingler but fell asleep since I'd been up since 4am working. I'm wrapping up Tingler now but probably shouldn't count it for the challenge. That puts me at 58 movies this year, all first time views with no rewatches. I wonder if that's a first.

This year I managed 46 movies, 23 of which were first time views. I would have done better but got super busy the final weekend of October and didn't have much time to just chill out with some horror flicks. Hopefully next year I wont have so many commitments.
Top 3 First Time Views... Werewolves Within Warm Bodies American Gothic
Just wanna say how much I always enjoy this challenge. Even if I didn't comment or like it Im pretty sure I read every movie mentioned in this discussion thread.

I had to do class and some homework for the day but finally watched Nosferatu afterward and I think that will be all for the night. Thought I would save a 100 y/o revered classic for the final day. There are apparently different versions of the film but I watched a copy on YouTube that ran for 95 minutes with the original German text (though the video still had English captioning to compensate). Aside from the silent aspect it holds up quite well. Count Orlok is creepy and it has some striking visuals and atmosphere. I heard it is a more faithful adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula compared to the 1931 film, but I think I prefer Nosferatu regardless. With that said, hope everyone else had a great one this year! 🎃 Have you seen Herzog’s late 70s remake? I think it’s just as good as the original. Though the two films have very different vibes and I don’t find Kinski’s performance to be as creepy.

So I got around to watching Scream 2022 & Scream 6. I thought the 2022 film was solid. However Scream 6 was a bore. Never have I found a Scream film to be a drag, but Scream 6 took the mantle. Outside of the opening, and the train scene. I really had trouble staying invested in this film. And on top of that the climatic reveal and pay-off fell flat. Easily my least favourite of the franchise. I enjoyed re-watching Scream 3 more. And that had to do with the performances. Scream 6 didn’t have that same luxury. Whether 6 is worse than 3 is something I've internally debated for months. As you said, 3 at least has some good performances, between Parker Posey's scene stealing and Neve Campbell turning in probably her best work in the franchise. Cox and Arquette were overused and started to feel like caricatures of their characters, but at least they still had that built in good will from 1 and 2. This is two movies in a row of me not giving a damn about the new characters, and in the case of Randy's niece and nephew, finding them outright annoying. And it really can't be understated how ridiculous the third act is. Between the gaping plotholes of the killer(s) and their motivations, and the fact that everyone suddenly can shrug off multiple stab wounds like nothing, the franchise officially jumped the shark for me. This makes Sidney's long lost brother and his magical voice changer that can perfectly duplicate everyone look like documentary footage. Yeah, the new characters are either leaden or annoying. The only one i sorta liked (turned out to be the lead killer in 5). Though Cox and Panettiere didn’t fare any better in the latest outing either. Chad & Mindy are indeed irritating. Especially the latter. Whenever she opens her mouth, the eye-rolling begins. Is it the delivery, or the writing, or a bit of both. I don’t understand the constant referring to Randy. Maybe it seems cute to some, but for me, it’s nauseating. I could deal with it in 5, but 6 her obnoxious persona just wore out its welcome quick. After the opening, which I thought was rather unique, it’s disappointing how questionably daft it becomes. I guess it would be curious to listen the bluray commentary track, to hear any insight on what transpires on screen. And that happy ending, after everybody survived constant stabbings does make you scratch your head. Especially Chad. Gee, he was probably stabbed more times than Richie was in the previous film. How wasn’t he not unconscious, or even dead when he was wheeled out. You’ll think the amount blood lost would be huge, and how long was he laying there before medics even got to him. I guess he had to be conscious, to squeeze in that kiss scene. Also there’s the moment Mindy runs to him… wait a minute, wasn’t she just brutally stabbed in the gut. Now she’s in no discomfort. I don’t know, there seemed to be odd time difference when her stabbing occurred on the train, and when the final showdown begins. Everything about it was ridiculous, I was waiting for one of the sister’s to wake up and realise the happy ending was only dream, and people actually had died. Who knows maybe the opening for Scream 7, will show what happened at the end of 6 was just a dream… and the twins were killed off. Can only hope 😁

Finished the challenge with 56 films, 33 FTVs. Did plan to watch another one or two films on Halloween night, but fell asleep just before midnight. Had bit of a slump during the middle of month, but a strong start and finish help with the numbers. Even with the slump, I was probably more into it this year, than the previous two years.
Top 5 FTV’s 1. The Innocents (1961) 2. The Piper (2015) 3. We’re Going to Eat You (1980) 4. The Ghost Snatchers (1986) 5. Roh (2019)
Top 3 watches: 1.Ravenous (1999) 2.Carrie (1976) 3.The Innocents (1961)
Bottom 3; 1. Ghost House, A True Story (1995) 2. Red Woods (2021) 3. Alligator 2: The Mutation (1991)
Going to take a break from watching movies and dive into some tv series.
I’ll try to post the results this weekend.
