Pretty bad time out given to Lebron/Lakers when Reaves had already lost the ball. Then KD launched the near airball 3 way early without coming to a stop. Vogel is pissed.
Lakers think they're in the bubble. Lebron 40 minutes.
$100k each.
Pacers vs Bucks {-4} Pelicans vs Lakers

Along with the aforementioned legalization of traveling and outlawing of defense. I saw a highlight on Sportscenter this morning. Giannis deflected a ball and gained possession at roughly Knicks' FT line, and proceeded to take ONE dribble as he took the ball down to his end for a breakaway dunk. One dribble from inside the opposing team's arc to a dunk on the other end. They pointed out it was something like 56.5 feet with only one dribble, and probably 9 steps. This league is a joke, it's a step away from WWE level officiating. Hell, they won't even let you play defense if you want to, and if you make contact with a guy's ear while swatting at the ball, or end up within three feet of the guy when closing out on a jumper, you're probably going to get a 'flagrant 2' and get tossed. There's no real offensive strategy, they just tell everyone to shoot threes all of the time. 5'4"? 7'9"? Shoot threes. Wide open for a layup? Kick it out for a three instead. There's no need for great passers or versatile players anymore, there's only one skill set required. Shoot threes. You don't need athleticism; you don't need a well-rounded game. Just shoot threes. Nobody in this league has a personality and nobody has a unique game dictated by their frame or physical gifts (outside of Giannis, for whom the rules do not apply). Everyone shoot threes, and if they don't go in, you lose. There's no locking down defensively, there's no plan B on offense to grind out a win. Just shrug your shoulders and go 6-42 from three as a team. Imagine the NFL once the analytics guys come for football the way they destroyed basketball. No RBs, no OL, just a QB and ten WRs running go routes because the analytics say it's either going to be a 40 yard reception or a PI; it just doesn't make sense to run for three yards or hit a quick slant for eight. All deep balls all the time because the simulation says that will inevitably lead to more points. The NBA fucking sucks.

Gets possession by dribbling the ball once with his right hand while his right foot is still inside the FT circle; that's one dribble. He takes possession in his left hand as his left foot hits the ground, that's a step between dribbles -- he then takes two more steps (for a grand total of three steps between dribbles) and almost a fourth before dribbling again (more of a self pass because he probably assumed even he would be called for a travel at that point, but whatever), regains possession and takes three full steps before dunking it. If you pause it, the ball is clearly in his possession in his right hand with his right foot on the ground when he's about even with the letter F in 'forum.' Then he takes one step to the three point line, one step to the FT line, another step into the lane and dunks it. The fact that his strides are so huge are what make his travels so blatant in the first place. It's ridiculous. And the announcers just laugh about it because they know how this league works. And God forbid there was a defender standing there motionless for the last 20 minutes, Otherwise Giannis would've extended his elbow and ran him right the fuck over, with the foul somehow being on the defender.

This is the NBA equivalent of what Tom Glavine did on every single pitch he ever threw in the majors. Catcher sets up clearly outside of the box, Glavine hits him right in the chest, called a strike....even though it's a foot outside. But yeah, if that's not traveling, then traveling doesn't exist.

Years ago they basically added an extra step but without changing the rules. First one is free. Another thing they rarely call that used to be called a lot is 3 seconds. Are players getting out of the paint earlier? No, but it was always an annoying call, same as palming and travelling. But no one yells about it so it doesn't matter. Are there more traveling calls in international and college?

Are there more traveling calls in international and college? They also have been doing the 'see if it goes in before calling a foul' thing for about 20 years now (without officially changing the rules), and it still bugs the shit out of me. It's either a foul or it isn't. Change the rules and maybe it would be less obnoxious. A three second violation is nowhere near as obvious or advantageous to the offensive player as a guy covering 3/4 of the court in one dribble. Traveling calls are more prevalent in college, yes. So is defense and scoring with something other than a three point shot. But all of that will change soon enough, I'm sure, as this shit trickles down. The all-star game used to be like a glorified pick-up game, nowadays it's a glorified shootaround. By the looks of this officiating, we're a few steps away from every NBA game being about guys standing around watching each other dunk and attempt halfcourt shots. It's a trash product if you actually enjoy competition. Jokic is the best all-around player in the league, and probably the last of his kind; i.e. the guy who can do it all. There's no reason to be good at anything in this league other than shooting threes and taking 17 giant steps to the rim uncontested.

NBA has to be hoping for Bucks-Lakers. Looks like a real postseason matchup. Maybe a team could win the Tournament and the title.
I'm hoping Indiana wins it.
Players, families, friends, and fans have totally bought in.
The games after Christmas are going back to the doldrums. Baseball is just as bad for most of the season. If I have a fantasy team, I have some interest. Otherwise I just check in to the standings from about game 40 on.

If I have a fantasy team, I have some interest. Otherwise I just check in to the standings from about game 40 on. No doubt the players and fans have bought in, it's the ultimate gen z creation. You get to say you 'won' something when all you did was win a handful of regular season games. Why grind it out for a season or the playoffs when you can randomly win a 'title' by showing up every other night in December? The whole thing is so pathetic. These players with padded stats now get to pad their resume with a goofy title signifying nothing. "Man, I worked so hard those 8 games at the beginning of the season. We definitely earned this one." If you think the rest of the season sucks, you're not a fan of basketball. The only reason it sucks is because we all know the players don't give a shit anymore. When the players care, you don't need an 'in season tournament,' because 82 games are played competitively. The NBA used to be a proving ground, the beginning of the journey to greatness. Now these guys are satisfied with simply making it. The NBA is the destination, time to put it in cruise control and look forward to big paydays and 'load management.'

Pretty much sums up all of my feelings, but since I don't watch much anymore I don't have all of the references you do. Allowing traveling and creating that little half circle under the hoop where it's literally not legal to play defense exemplify everything wrong with the rules in the NBA to me
