Hello there,
here is the latest table for the midweek games of 5th - 7th December.
ZOS scored the highest with 7 and there's one more round, which you've all predicted, before the onslaught of the Festive Frenzy of 39 games.
The odd fixture missing is Man City v Brentford, postponed on 23rd December on account of City's participation in the Fifa Club World Cup where City will play either Léon or Urawa Red Diamonds (formerly Mitsibushi Urawa Football Club until 1996 when presumably they preferred to drop the motoring side of sponsorship and load up solely on a corporation that manufactures all things nail drilly - those little devices you see higher-end nail technicians hunched over while working on someone's nails? probably made by Urawa)
Anyway, Léon are from Mexico and Urawa Red Diamonds from Japan so City will clearly have it all to do. There are seven matches in the Fifa Club WC, one in the 1st round (that's right, I did say one) - Al-Ethiad Ittihad v Auckland City taking place at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. Two games in the 2nd round - so the loser of the single 1st round game simply goes home, but wait, out of nowhere in round 2 comes Al Ahly and our two old friends Léon and Urawa to make up the numbers. Two semi-finals (we may lose two teams in round 2 but they are nothing if not crafty out there because once again out of nowhere appears two more sides, Manchester City and Brazilian outfit Fluminense, to barge their way into proceedings just at the important stage. One final (clearly contrived to be between the two celebrity latecomers) And a 3rd place play-off between the other two. We all can't wait for this event, I'm sure.
Rumours that Brentford FC did its all to persuade Fifa to permit them entry (and a $5m participation cash-in as a consolation for the postponed EPL game) are not true, claims Brentford Chief Executive Jon Varney, even if Brentford was offered an additional $5m to change their nickname to the Apis Floreas for the day.
