It would be difficult to try to make any sense of a new movie in the same continuity, but then again, it was never the most sensible movie and sequel to begin with. Interesting, sorta, because Freddie Prinze Jr. has spoken a bit about what a terrible experience he had on the first movie. The director was very cruel to him, apparently, but he had a better time on the sequel.

Apparently the director told him he didn't want him in the movie, and would give him a lot of acting notes, which... yeah. I can kinda sympathize with a director being forced to try and get a good performance out of Freddie Prinze Jr. Hewitt, Gellar, and Phillippe were all good enough actors to an extent. Prinze, not so much.

Yeah, he's not really a good actor, but for a director to start the production by saying 'I dont want you here' and give notes like 'you look stupid' and just be generally contentious is clesrly not a good way to go ahout it. That and he made him do a very dangerous stunt after sending the stunt team home to save money and when it went wrong and he tried to make him do it again. Thats all pretty lame and probably illegal and violated all sorts of union rules and stuff. Not that I'm some big fan of Freddie Prinze Jr. or anything, but it does sound like that director (who has not done much of note since) was kind of a prick, and unnecessarily so.

I never got the hate for Freddie. He did his time,Got Married, and has a Family. Decided to mostly walk away from Acting. He wasn't James Dean. But who is? I can name other Actors that annoy me more. Like Pete Davidson or Kimmy Kardashian.

To be fair, he does look kinda stupid with his mouth hanging open. I don't know, this is just one side of the story. I found an interview from the director years ago (before FPJ came out with this) where he said he was the one who advocated Freddie for the part and it was the studio that didn't want him. Then Freddie kinda flip-flops in his statements between saying he'd get singled out for notes and then left out of notes, and it's like, which is it? Maybe you were off one day and fine by the director the other. He underline all this by saying "It’s not that we weren’t on the same page, I knew what the correct choices were for the Ray character" and Phillippe came to his rescue by telling him to just do his own thing, so it could just be he has a fundemental rejection of being directed, which would explain She's All That and most of his other performances. On the other hand, the stunt incident sounds pretty whacky, especially in light of the Twilight Zone accident. Seems mainly there was a miscommunication over what kinda boat he'd be using in the scene but the stunt coordinator should not have been sent home. I've seen that bean counting on sets and it drives me crazy.

Like Pete Davidson or Kimmy Kardashian. I mean, James Dean and Kim Kardashian are a pretty high and low bar. But I think a lot of FPJ's contemporaries, like Phillippe and Matthew Lillard, would regularly act him off the screen. He was a plank of wood, made more annoying by the fact that Hollywood was trying to push him so hard. It's insane that we got roughly 5 years of him as a leading man. Doesn't mean he deserves to have his face chopped off by a motorboat in a failed stunt accident, but yeah.

I recently saw Freddie Prinze in a TV movie from 1997 alongside Ricky Schroder about a real life school shooting. He’s actually pretty good in that. Maybe it being based on a real like tragedy made him step up his game

How many people could possibly still remember what happened that summer? And where have they been all this time, and why did they wait so long to get revenge? 🤔
