So with the announcement of 7 Earth like planets orbiting the white dwarf star Trappist-1, at least 3 of which are in it's habitable zone, and at least one of which has liquid water, all within just 40 lightyears of Earth, the message is clear. Planets that can sustain life are everywhere.
How do theists react to this?

How do theists react to this? How do expect us to react? You know from the other board that 98 % of us have no problem with aliens.

How do expect us to react? You know from the other board that 98 % of us have no problem with aliens. Well religious people used to think that we were really special and the only life there was. They would insist on it. Kind of like how some of them still insist that evolution isn't real. Now I know you all will just sort of act like it all fits into your belief system every time we discover something else, and will do this pretend you were never denying the possibility, but you must see how annoying that is. No matter how many times you admit your beliefs were wrong, from thinking we were the center of the universe, to global floods, to adam and eve, to evolution denial, to life on other planets, all of the things your religion has historically claimed were true, have become official myths, and yet you still keep claiming that the god thing is true. I just don't see why you keep hanging on to that one. It should be obvious by now.

Like when the Catholics imprisoned Galileo because he had the audacity to suggest that the Earth was NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE! Nice we live in a time where whoever made that discovery doesn't need to fear being imprisoned by the church.

Nice we live in a time where whoever made that discovery doesn't need to fear being imprisoned by the church. It is nice that the church has rightfully lost power. However that hasn't stopped it for encouraging ignorance in terms of dismissing overwhelming evidence for things like evolution and the big bang. You still have massive numbers of people denying facts like these and saying ridiculously ignorant things like "it's just a theory", and all of this is encouraged by religion. And that's not even mentioning other absurd stances like not understanding that homosexuality is natural. Sure, you've come along way since burning witches seemed like a good idea, but your perceived progress is only the result of science and secular society beating you into submission.

Habitable Zone exoplanets are the atheist equivalent of Pearly Gates.
Keep hope alive.
It's fascinating news, just silly to attach an extraterrestrial component to it.

At best, he was under house arrest in perfect comfort, and not for sayingf the earth was the centre of the Universe - but for other offences.

We ARE really special, and all other life is inferior and must be made to bow before us! Our next step forward - CONQUER THE UNIVERSE!!!

I mean: Archie didn't address his question to Christians in the 16th century... He addressed it to Christians today.. most of whom probably don't care or feel that this breaks their faith in God. This is the equivalent of posting a study about a new virus... and then, asking how doctors feel because you assume that they still believe in the 4 humors.

How do theists react to this? and at least one of which has liquid water
The discovery sets a new record for greatest number of habitable-zone planets found around a single star outside our solar system. All of these seven planets could have liquid water – key to life as we know it – under the right atmospheric conditions, but the chances are highest with the three in the habitable zone.
Further observations will not only help determine whether they are rich in water, but also possibly reveal whether any could have liquid water on their surfaces. The mass of the seventh and farthest exoplanet has not yet been estimated – scientists believe it could be an icy, "snowball-like" world, but further observations are needed.

Whilst this is indeed a fantastic discovery you should really stick to the facts. At this time liquid water on any of the planets has not been determined. I sincerely hope it is but you are guilty of embellishment.

At best, he was under house arrest in perfect comfort, and not for sayingf the earth was the centre of the Universe - but for other offences. Of course he wasn't sentenced for saying the earth was the centre of the universe you silly cow, that wasn't what OSV said, try reading what people actually write. That view(geocentrism) was the prevailing orthodoxy at the time, particularly among the Catholic Church. It was considered heresie to reject it and advocate alternative theories. Which is what Galileo did when he wrote a book outlining the case for heliocentrism(earth revolves around the sun),these writings eventually made their way to the inquisition where it was found they violated the council of trent which specifically forbade what the vatican referred to as "Protestant heresies" and the reinterpretation of the bible. Here is the a transcript of exactly what Galileo was found guilty of: That those venial, arrogant, scientifically illiterate fools were able to pass judgement on Galileo in such a manner, the greatest mind of his generation, is a stain on the Catholic church which endures to this day. That you seek to minimize the churches conduct in this matter is unsurprising, you and those cardinals are cut from the same self righteous, ignorantly informed cloth. So how about Ada you do some fact checking about what you are actually typing before spouting of.

No. Some religious people insisted on that, not all of us. What you're doing is an example of the problem. So those religious people are being irrational, but surely not you. You picked the rational religion. News flash, there isn't one.

OH MY GOD!!! OTHER PLANETS EXIST!!! CHRISTIANS DON'T BELIEVE IN THE UNIVERSE!!! WHAT EVER WILL THEY DO!! Of course the point was not exo planets, but life existing elsewhere. Surely you must realize we are going to discover that at some point, and that it means we aren't special? We aren't god's special little children. Get it?

It's not embellishing, I've read that elsewhere and regardless they are nearly certain. Also as you point out here, it's quite possible that all of them could have it, and EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T!!!
WATER IS THE MOST COMMON MOLECULE IS THE UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
This isn't news.

It's not faith at all. You see we have this thing called evidence of a planet with elements and conditions that can sustain life, and we have evidence of other planets with similar elements and conditions.
You don't seem to know what faith is. Do you see any evidence of a universal intelligence? Because we haven't discovered that at all.
You can see the difference right? Right?
