Out of the entire DC universe, the property that I think has the most potential in terms of grand universe building is the stuff involving the Green Lantern corps. There's so much that can be explored with the premise of an intergalactic peacekeeping force that consists of all kinds of different alien species. Honestly, it's partially thanks to the Green Lantern Corps that the DC universe is as large as it is.
Sadly, even if the DCEU eventually incorporates the Green Lantern Corps, I feel that their thunder has already been taken by the MCU. Thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Marvel has already introduced the concept of an entire diverse universe of alien beings interacting with one another, and heroes going to different planets and having all kinds of cool adventures. In other words, even if the Green Lantern Corps film does get made, it will inevitably be seen as an attempt to emulate the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Sure, the movie could still be good, but it won't be seen as unique and fresh.
It's just kind of disappointing for me. Sure, the Green Lantern got his big screen movie before the Guardians of the Galaxy did, but aside from being a notorious flop, that movie didn't even really utilize the Corps. It all took a backseat to a run-off the mill superhero origin story.

I agree. It would have been a perfect bridge between various characters and their own adventures.

I'm glad someone brought this up. Can we talk about Green Lantern the movie...the one with Ryan Reynolds in it? Can someone tell me where they went wrong with that one?

Green Lantern the movie...the one with Ryan Reynolds in it? Can someone tell me where they went wrong with that one? For starters: CGI costume Miscasting of Ryan Reynolds (and I'm a RR fan) Ill-conceived comedic tone to the film

I'm glad someone brought this up. Can we talk about Green Lantern the movie...the one with Ryan Reynolds in it? Can someone tell me where they went wrong with that one? 1) The director Martin Campbell is actually pretty good. He's done stuff like GoldenEye, Casino Royale, and Mask of Zorro. But I don't think he was accustomed to CGI heavy movies and Green Lantern was practically drowning in it. His own words as follows: "It's daunting, just the process, (there are) something like 1,300 visual shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly". So having a director uncomfortable with the material might have bled into the production. 2) The script was credited to four writers which probably contributed to the inconsistent tone. Most of them did stuff for television and ironically would go onto the Arrowverse. So if the story and dialogue had that 'televison movie' feel and corniness you'd expect on The CW, it's not by accident. 3) As we now know, Warner Brothers are desperate for a shared universe sink or swim. Perhaps the way they approached Green Lantern was a warning for the likes of Batman versus Superman. Both went balls out with the tie-ins and easter eggs and weird cameos. Only it seems WB learned nothing from GL and oddly BVS went even further by actually throwing a kitchen sink into the mix. 4) If there's one thing I don't really dislike about the movie, it's the casting. Mark Strong and Peter Sarsgaard were perfect as Sinestro and Hector Hammond. In a better written movie, I can see Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively as this superhero couple. I'd make a joke about their lack of chemistry but since they're married in real life, perhaps there's something the script just didn't get. 5) Back to the script, they wasted too much time on Earth and tried too hard to make it like Iron Man with the emphasis on humor and shenanigans. Like CinemaSins pointed out, sometimes even the effects seem lifted from Iron Man. It shouldn't have been this action comedy but instead more akin to a science fiction adventure. It could have been an interesting introduction to the DCEU but here we are.

Then again, it has been a while since I've seen it.

I'm not sure why, but I've never been a big Green Lantern fan. Maybe a good movie could change my outlook.

Before he lost his mind, I'd have nominated Barry Sonnenfeld to direct a Green Lantern movie. If done in a manner similar to the first Men in Black but on this big space opera scale, I think audiences would flock to it.

To be honest I didn't really think Green Lantern was that bad. No worse than BvS or SS anyway, and those 2 movies are still getting follow up movies made. I'd be ok with DC simply bringing Reynolds back and continuing with his story, just give him a better movie.

None of these legends would do it, but Peter Jackson, James Cameron, or Ridley Scott could probably make a good GL film. Actually, I don't know if Cameron is a legend, but he could make a good movie. They're all great at world-building.
